Can anyone tell me if "Syvia" in The Matchmaker is based on Perla Ovitz? Did the Ovitz family live in Haifa? Did the Ovitz family run a movie theatre?

Just curious.

Yes, indeed. The family moved to Haifa after the war, and they owned a cinema there. Check their Wikipedia entry under "Ovitz Family".

It is quite a fascinating story. I didn't realise the dwarf cinema scenario in the film was all based on real life characters until I came here.🐭
