Hi Andrew.

He made a great movie that was almost brilliant and released it into a modern day market of TikTok obsessed idiots whose notion of film seldom goes beyond people in capes and spandex blasting bad guys with CGI superpowers. The audience is dumb, naturally they're going to hate anything that isn't simple, straightforward, and requiring actual thought.

I don't think the audience is dumb. But there are certainly different audiences who like different stuff. Blonde is an arthouse film that went over well at the Venice film festival but was always unlikely to land with a Netflix crowd. It was a bit like putting Enter the Void on Disney+.

Blonde as, say, a Mubi exclusive would have received a much fairer hearing. Which isn't to say there weren't some valid criticisms. There were. But it was mostly marketed at the wrong audience.
