While there are english subs that just hit the internet in the usual spots if you know where to look for them (most likely from the European release), I also implore you to wait until the 22nd, since that's when Well Go USA released it on Blu-Ray and DVD:

http://www.amazon.com/Helldriver-Blu-ray-Minoru-Torihada/dp/B005HG8VEY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321167368&sr=8-1

This version, compared to the subbed ones online right now, is also the uncut version, which includes about 20 more minutes and an entire side story that was cut featuring Sushi Typhoon regular and all around asskicker Asami.

thanks i got the sub.
just popping random question, is tomie unlimited any good? do i need to watch the prequel ?

reply

Usually the Tomie stories are pretty redundant and retell the same story over and over again, so you should have no problem just jumping into Unlimited.

You should be doubly fine since Unlimited appears to be a reboot of the series.

Hi, aquaphx. On Tuesday, November the 22nd (2011) I purchased the Blu-ray edition of Helldriver from my least favorite of American corporations, a Wal-mart big box store.

It was less than $20.00 (U.S. dollars) and also contained a bonus DVD. Both the Blu-ray and the DVD are in Japanese with English subtitles and the bonus features are also subtitled in English. I don't think there are English-speaking dubs (thank goodness).

I haven't watched the movie yet but from what I've read it's pretty messy and full of really over-the-top yet crudely done comic gore.

Tokyo Gore Police and Machine Girl were also mentioned as being "better" J-gorefest movies but at the same time Helldriver was said to have quite good production values - on a par with previous Well Go USA releases from the Sushi Typhoon Japanese film production company (owned by media conglomerate Nikkatsu Corporation).

So, yeah, Helldriver is subtitled in English on both the Blu-ray and DVD editions (although one may not have a Blu-ray player yet (I personally don't), it makes more sense to get the "combo" pack because it's only a couple of bucks more).

I'm glad you asked about subtitles for Helldriver because it was the occasion for me to do a little research about both other Well Go USA releases AND the Sushi Typhoon nutso Japanese film company.

From a totally different country and culture, may I recommend the recent USA release of the Spanish film The Last Circus - available in Spanish with English subtitles on both the DVD and Blu-ray editions. I found this gem in the "Espanol" titles section of the same (sigh) Wal-mart store.

That's so weird to me: to find off-the-wall international releases in Wal-mart that I can't find at a Super Best Buy store. And for cheap, too.

Happy Thanksgiving 2011, by the way.
