Fantastic film

Saw this at Cinema Sundays at the Charles in Baltimore.

I had heard of Frederick Wiseman but hadn't seen any of his films.

I loved this movie, and want to see it again, and give a copy to my daughter when it's for sale. The two hosts of Cinema Sundays had each seen it twice and they both seemed glad they'd seen it again -- on a big screen the second time, on HD tv the first time. Said it was better on the big screen.

I think it could have been cut down to 85 minutes, but I also liked it fine the way it was.

I learned a huge amount about boxing, and also about the people at the Gym. I was impressed by the extreme amount of care and patience the teachers gave to the students, and by the intelligence and -- I'll use the word "purity" of the people at the gym.

Near the end is a 3-minute round of boxing, where you see in action where the training is put into practice. There is one really powerful shot to the head that drew gasps from the audience at Cinema Sundays. This is a loving and careful portrait of the owner and teachers and students at Lord's Gym.

9/10

[primly] I don't know about war.

Why do you think the film critics liked it so much more than average viewers?
