you got it!! its very very racial here b/c many of the members come from European countries where they are racist ..a lot of brits here also & I heard they're really racist out there
First off, Britian is more racially tolerant than the other European countries, even more so than the United States. You can just tell by watching their television shows, there's more opportunity for Blacks in lead roles than here in the US. Also you will find a magnatude of interracial relationships in shows. Check out UK's Being Human, Misfits, Material Girl, Luther, Top Boy, Dr. Who... just to name a few.
No offense, but your statement about Brits being racist is way off base.
Second, about this film: It's terrible. Sorry but there are no laughs, way too many characters whose storylines are not played out well and as a fellow Black filmmaker, I know we can do better. Just a couple of things off the top of my head?
SPOILERS:
Why show the flashback of homie cheating on his girl? Especially when that girl is NOT Stacey Dash? It was out of the blue and just a waste of time. Couldn't they get Stacey on set that day? The flash back would have been powerful if it had contained her. Second the whole Persia White/Jason Weaver "trying to make a main stream movie" was completely lost. What was the point of Christian Key's character?
While I can break down the problems even more with the lazy script, terrible cinemotography, poor acting and haphazard editing, I won't. In fact I encourage fellow screen writers and editors TO watch it. It's an excercise in what works and what doesn't.
I rated this movie a "10" because of what a poster said, "to balance out all the hate"! "2" stars out of 10? Its not a classic but its not some random movie from the SciFi channel either. This movie was funny-especially Jason and Reagan-and a tearjerker. Not an all out tissue in hand tearjerker but some parts were emotional. I don't know why or who's rating it sooo low but it deserves more stars, I give it 6 out of 10.
I really loved the cast. It was almost like watching what all my childhood friends grew up to be. However, this was not a good movie. It really wasn't.
I would have given this movie a 6. Clearly there is a racial\cultural divide and people just don't seem to "get" movies with a black cast. If the cast were non black you could automatically add 3-4 IMDB stars. It's really shameful.
It doesn't have anything to do with the colour of the cast. When you put this up against other films of its ilk (Return of the Secausus Seven, The Big Chill, Peter's Friends, et al), it is clearly the poorest quality of the lot.
Boo hoo hoo, there's girls on my show. I'm taking my balls and going home.
Lopsided, biased reviews only prove to make all the reviews irrelevant. Leave an honest review of the movie or get off this site altogether because you clearly can't handle this environment. That goes for both sides of the argument. I dont think anyone who is a racist against black people would even watch this movie.... I'm 45 minutes in, and I'm questioning the "comedy" label this movie was given. I'm a white dude, but I chose this movie because it starred Tatyana Ali and Stacey Dash. Nice to look at, ya know? So, no racism here, but this movie is wack. I haven't even smiled yet...
The movie wasn't really a comedy, it was more a relationship-drama which is what I was looking to watch, and expected going into the movie... I liked the movie. Seems like a lot of people label any movie with a bit of elements to a comedy, a "comedy"... yet when a comedy movies has a bit of drama, they never call it a drama.
I dunno, but this movie was 90% drama... although I found the porn director dude to be funny - he cracked me up.
