Seems like a bit of a House rip off.

Doesn't it?

reply

If House had a less morose sense of humor. More like
a kinder House with a hint of Scrubs. I liked the first
episode.

Parts of it are very Houselike, although you have to give it some ground in that any show about a medical specialist is going to involve similar elements in the exposition, the analysis, etc. The actor is definitely taking inspiration from the House character.

reply

He seems more sympathetic towards his patients than House. And, being played by Nesbitt (who is the definitive Mr Hyde to many) it is a great performance he makes

Yeah just a poor man's House, even the opening titles were vaguely similar.

reply

Don't forget they both have a doctor named Wilson. (A silent nod to House?)

And of course both shows have lead actors who aren't American. (Oh, I'm not trolling, I just had to throw that in there!)

But I watch for the same reason you do - James Nesbitt. Indeed, I'd watch him read the finacial section of the newspaper. And, probably because I don't watch House, I really enjoy this show without being irritated about the similarities.

reply

I adore James Nesbitt! I so want to see this but, other than buying it on Amazon UK, living here in the States I wont be able to unless BBC America picks it up. Bonus that the very cute Andrew Gower is in it. I loved him on Being Human!

Purrrr!

Came here to post exactly the same thing. Even the synopsis in my TV guide sounded like it could be a description of Gregory House. Pretty lame to rip off a still-running show.

Just for the record, I'm female.....at least, last time I checked...

reply

Besides they are both Doctors it is nothing like House. If anything it is like Cracker

reply

Absolutely agree.
I`m a big fan of house and i can see very few similarities between that and this - beyond the very obvious fact of the main character being a top medical figure.
I did find however that a lot of the promo blurb about it imply it is going to be a new House - and the titles are a bit too similar.
The problems faced, characters interaction and basic feel seem to me to be as far from house as a medical based drama series is likely to get.

reply

More or less, though I wouldn’t call it a rip-off. It’s more just a UK version of House (which is kind of funny since Hugh Laurie is English).

Nothing like House (which is a fine programme in its own right). The characters in this are more believable and more "rounded" than the 2-dimensional types in House.

By the way, Hugh Laurie's fake yank accent is really irritating and totally unnecessary.

reply

House is believable ? Are you out of your tree, mate ? The main character (Dr House) is an arrogant narcissist with a god complex who has caused nothing but havoc and total disregard for medical ethics and practice. A real doctor like him should have been fired and deregistered YEARS ago.

The other characters are just cardboard cutouts parroting forced dialogue. Hardly realistic at all.

I thought that before I watched it.

Now I've watched it I think it's far superior in every aspect other budget, and possibly a large team of writers.

Nesbitt is brilliant. The support are fantastic, and like too many Brit shows, a season of 6-8 always seems too short (writer shortage?. American seasons are always way too long and full of filler episodes. What happened to the good old says of 12!?

I also love the theme tune! Anyone know who it's by or where to get it?
