they copped out mate - looks like they ran out of ideas and left it 'to our imagination' i too loved the show but they didn't satisfactorily resolve it imo

I watched 4 series of Lassie before I realised why the little hairy kid didn't talk!

reply

yea, terrible way to end a great mini series, very dissappointed

reply

i didnt think the ending was that bad...just didnt want it to end to be honest lol.
my thoughts are that...the guys driving away in the car came to a sudden stop, so ive got the feeling that maybe that gangster dude was blocking the way, killed them and then continued to the house to get quinn.....

reply

Now you come to mention it, I think that was the case. The lads were shot in the car and Dominic was on his way to the villa, which results in Quinn copping it.

reply

i dont want them to die, but if theres not another series then ill just have to accept it lol :|

reply

Nooo, they weren't shot were they? I thought it was just left very open and ambiguous, they were considering turning around and not leaving Quinn and then the gangster arrives, setting it up nicely for a second series? I think I'll choose to believe that because it was fantastic, beautifully written and acted and a joy to look at, we need more!

reply

I think the original ending was probably that they were shot and Quinn is next but when the producers saw how good the whole thing was they left it open for the guys to go back and save Quinn just in time. The villa is their's and with the corrupt cops mostly gone then it could make for a great second series. I loved it. Unmissable acting, great writing and how gorgeous was that location to watch on a cold London night. I do hope they make another one.

reply

I doubt the other 3 were shot. Infact i think its been left open for another series. They way they stopped looked more like a we cant really leave him moment.

reply

It was a typical horror film ending. Very ambiguous and definitely left open for a sequel. I thought they'd stopped because they couldn't leave Quinn behind and were potentially going back... Hopefully we'll get a conclusion. Great show anyway.

reply

I was reading about the show on wiki and it said they were preparing to make a second series with it, so maybe they left the ending open for that reason. I like UK series, they don't waste time with filler episodes like they do in the US so I hope they make another series out of this. I don't mind 4 a season either. Quality over quantity.

reply

I get the feeling people wanted either a super happy ending or utter bad ending. And some saying they bottled out of any twist that was teased. Nothing was teased, they simply showed the 4 guys reaching their breaking point.

reply

just seen the whole series in one sitting, excellent!

the ending is completely open to interpretation.

1) They could all be dead: Car stopped because Dominic was there and he killed them all, then went up and killed the final one in the swimming pool

or

2) They all live: The boys stopped the car, had a change of heart and decided to go back. They see Dominic and kill him before he kills Quinn.

I assume number 2 is right as i've just read there will be a season 2 next year!

reply

I think that Quinn knew that the mafia guy was gonna come for them so sent his pals away to make sure that they were gonna be safe, he sort of goes on about how he has no life and even his kids dont like him, I think when they stopped in the car i think it was just a case of bloody hell how are we still alive, but it does leave it open for another series cos if they do turn around to go back for quinn, well it all starts again, by the way that villa was bloody nice, to think someone actually lives there wow

reply

I thought that too. I figured that Quinn didn't think he had anything else to live for, so he sent the others away to be safe while he takes the blame.

Down with this sort of thing

reply

I thought the ending was fantastic, especially compared to the awful one for Marchlands that was at the same time (thank god for Sky Plus LOL)

Yes, I believe some of Mad Dogs has been left open, but I thought it was so well filmed at the end, and I see two possibilities. I'm talking about the two roads/junction they can see from the Villa.

Either:

1) That gangster came down the OTHER road that the other three drove away in, and ended up just killing Quinn. The other three stopped and looked ahead because they were pondering going back for Quinn.

OR

2) That gangster came down the the SAME road that they drove away in, therefore crossing paths, and likely stopping to shoot all three of them dead. They would've been staring at the gangster's car before it cut away from that scene.

So in other words they've left it open for a sequel haha. Though going by how tremendous that all was; the acting, script, atmosphere, lighting... everything! I definitely wouldn't say no to one.

I think the ending is open to interpretation, I think Quinn is in on it all, and the man at the end was going to meet with him to get his share of the money!!!!

reply

Nah i doubt Quinn is in on it all. He just felt like he had nothing to really live for. Hated his job, no money, no wife/GF and his kids hated him so he was willing to take the blame for the others. And if the other guy knew him i doubt he would pull his gun out.

reply

Originally I thought we were supposed to think that all 4 of them were shot but if the 3 guys get shot without any silencer thats going to make quite a noise and I doubt Quinn's last act would be to jump into the pool. I am hoping for a second season because it was better than I thought it would be and probably enough was left open to sustain a new season.

reply

Well i took it that Quinn drowns himself in the pool as a sacrifice.

He's killed the woman to save them, but now he knows he's in the sh!te no matter what - i.e connected to the police or not, someone's going to want revenge.

So he figure he gives them a body(him) and the lions share of the cash - they'll just tidy up the mess and forget about it - giving the other three time to escape.

It's sort of his way of succeeding - as he's cocked everything else up he might as well make everything right for them. ANd since he's the only one who's actually killed anyone they can go and get their lives back and make good on them.

I think this is confirmed when he gives them the 80 thousand and says "have a drink on me".

always love see how many ways a good story can be interpreted, mark of a great show i think, where everyone can read something in too it. personally my instinct was at first when he points the gun at them that hes decided i killed the cop im shot so i cant go through the airport the villa is mine the cash is mine i have the gun they arent gonna argue i have nothing to go back to, *beep* them im having the lot.

BUT he was always the moral one, really disliking his friend cheating on his wife etc so i thought wow what a twist until he hands them the cash then i thought hmmm no hes taking the fall, hes falling on his sword and making the sacrifice. the police/serbs whoever was actually involved wont stop looking till they find something so hes gonna face them and see them off etc. the jumping in the pool was creepy as its full of blood, a corpse and a servered foot, still not quite sure why he felt the need to throw the foot in there but what the hey. i felt he jumped in the pool like the boys had done, ie to clean up feel fresh, get all the heat and sweat and sun cream off himself and just feel cleansed after having just taken a life, a little self indulgence and comfort, who when staying in hazing heat hasnt just wanted to dive into cool crisp water. so yeh i think it was his just going ok its over and preparing himself.

i dont think he wanted to die or let himself be killed so i dont think hed have just got in the pool waiting to be shot, i think hed have kept hold of his gun or if it was empty pick up the dead cops gun to defend himself, so i think he was expecting there to be police on their way to lock him up but that he had time to let himself relax one last time, i dont think he expected another gunman to arrive so soon, thought he believed the crooked cop had been working alone to con them into giving her the cash. i felt he was planning on taking the whole thing on himself and either talk his way out of it or take the blame and explain his friends had not been involved just me and the dead friend kinda thing. i never got the feel the boys died as we first saw the gunmen walking into the villa nothing to suggest he found them or killed them he wouldnt be after a blood bath on a public road where random people such as a man and his son could come across them, hed want to kill them in the villa and dispose of their remains if he was going to do them in.

if the boys did go back i wonder how theyd have saved him as they were unarmed and no idea how to really fight and the drug boss was armed with a gun and i wouldnt be surprised if he has experience using it.

i wish it had been resolved more as im the type to obsess over these kind of details but as long we eventually get all the details il be happy.

reply

Yeah I agree with all that.

Only bit is the final ending when he dunks his whole head into the pool - I guess it's been left deliberately open in case of a follow up.

But if there never is a follow up it still works, whatever you imagine he does.

Quinn could have been in on it the whole time and is in business with Domininc - Quinn didn't want the cops involved, came up with all the plans.
Possible that woman still alive and was wearing bullet proof vest and ketchup;)

Brilliant series though - only just finished watching it - hope there is a second series

reply

Just watched it straight through on DVD, loved the show, great acting, script etc. Still puzzling over the last scene. I don't think Quinn w/could drown himself in a pool, when he could have shot himself, if he intended to suicide. Like another poster, I like clear cut endings, lacking imagination myself, I suppose, so, I am hoping for a 2nd season to explain it all.

Mad Dogs returns early 2012.

reply

I think it's nearly impossible to commit suicide by drowning in a pool. Unless you strap weights to yourself, your survival instincts are going to kick in.

A comment was made about Quinn being the most moral of the four (Alvo not included). I think he would have jumped Nina's bones if she'd be up for it. He was only disgusted by Rick's cheating because Rick was cheating on the woman Quinn loved.

Even though Baxter seemed to be willing to take some of the money, I think his rant against Woody actually shows what a stand-up guy he was. He got screwed and lost his job, but still did what he needed to do to provide for his family, including the ex.

I felt the writer ran out of steam by the final episode. there was a lot of bickering and then a open ending, as Sky probably gave a not to another series during production.

Its that man again!!

Maybe you all should just watch the second season :P
