"Cold is the Grave": scene from 1984?

Just saw "Cold is the Grave" on BBC HD. When Banks sees the rats again and has an 'epiphany' moment, very briefly we see a boy, from the rear, looking at a landscape - this looked to me very much like a scene from '1984' (the John Hurt version), a story in which rats also play a part. Was it, and if so, what was it supposed to mean?

The poison used to kill Emily is also used for killing rats, and Banks remembers his boss talking about killing rats in his house, that's what the scene is for.
