WATCHING SEASON 5's "Buried" now

Just watched Annie, a witness and his daughter come face to face with a killer & his gun and I want to ask "Why the heck don't England's detectives carry guns" ?????? If the bad guys have guns shouldn't the good guys carry them ?

I remember in a George Gently episode that his assistant does have a gun and saves Gently's life by shooting a bad guy in a church!!! so if that's supposed to be the 1970s (?) why don't today's detectives carry them?

Unless it's all fiction and not really true?? Someone know ?

I don't mind the fact that she did not have a gun, I know about the British police not carrying guns. but what got me is the fact that she just stands there and watches the thing unfold. as a matter of fact, it seems to be she looked to makes sure she was well away from the family she is supposed to protect. I would have at least got in between the hit man & the family if I were her.

Maybe she was following procedure I don't know how the BPD's work. but I just thought that was odd. she did not even stop the daughter from going to her dad's rescue. Banks seemed to have no problem confronting the hitman when he felt he had to.

But that was writing--not reality
The daughter protecting her father was a personal connection for the gunman

"That's the beauty of argument, Joey...if you argue correctly, you are never wrong..."

I also find it odd that the police don't carry guns even while protecting a crucial witness, then what would they do in a dangerous situation like this?
