I only lived in the US until I was 12 and then my family moved to Europe
so I never went to high school over there.
I always see these cliches of jocks in their stupid football jackets and the cheerleader girlfriends in every movie that takes place in high schools, including this one.
Do these people actually exist in the sense of a bunch of dumb jocks sitting around in their team jackets and all they date are cheerleaders, or is this more the stereotype?
It's more of a stereotype. At least in the Midwest where I grew up. My friends and I were the popular group in highschool and most of us played at least one sport but it was pretty secondary to the rest of highschool life in general. And most of the good-looking, semi-intelligent girls that were popular would have never been caught dead in a cheerleader outfit. I remember one girl that was semi-popular that dated one if my friends that was a cheerleader but she was a complete idiot and was oblivious to the fact that she was being made fun of all of the time (highschool kinda can be cruel, that part is true).
