few things i dont get...spoilers

ok, i liked the movie. few things though,

1) arent blanks dangerous at close range?

2) didnt he leave a tape almost confessing what he'd done in the car?

3) he didnt hear the emo gril refering to the bomb as the finale of the show, why did he tell them "the shows cancelled"? that would be a bit of a weird thing to choose to say first!

4) why go and meet them all at the end!? why put yourself in that situation? why didnt he just get as far away as possible?

reply

1)yes but not definite, and not fatal. it could easily be chance that he wasn't harmed.

2)i missed that but from another post it was a set up for the alternate ending, in which the police find said recorder. i prefer the current ending.

3)he probably said that to her. she was following his lead, if he said "the finale to the show" , so would she. just an assumption.

4)i could only assume if there was physical evidence he was at the gas station or in the area, that's an excuse. also, that's where it took place and he did not bring his own vehicle out there, and the emo kids was needed for the set up.

reply

ok thanks. i was expecting him to get busted via the taped confension at the end. dont really know which id prefer. as someone died as as result of his actions i suppose he shouldnt get away with it

another thing i was thinking of, if he was so keen to use blanks in the hand gun, why did he load the shotgun with live ammo!?

reply

yeah i'm not sure.

he did say he knew the other kid couldn't control himself (why he gave him the blanks)

i can only assume he meant for someone to die.

>>2) didnt he leave a tape almost confessing what he'd done in the car?

Now you guys got me wondering about this.

Was there an actual scene that shows the recorder being left in the car?

reply

yes...he put in in the glove box didnt he? spose you could say he took it out but i was waiting for that to come back at him at the very end, when the cop says "we gotta search your car" otherwise its a bit weird that we hear the cop say that...

reply

I don't recall seeing him put it in the glove box, but there is so much I missed or didn't clue into.
>>when the cop says "we gotta search your car" otherwise its a bit weird that we hear the cop say that...

Exactly. That's why I'm thinking he didn't really get away with it. He only thought he did.

I have to watch this again.

reply

im sure after recording the message to his mum (that we dont even know is a confession cause we dont hear much but im sure itd go against him if the cops found it) he leans over to the passenger side and puts it (recorder/phone?) somewhere safe...

reply

I'm curious. The cop only said that they were going to check his car for PRINTS. Is there even any guarantee that the cops would listen to the tape at all? I think he gets away with it.

reply

yea, i did think that but knowing how cops are theyd probly have a snoop around. i just dont understand why we were shown the cop saying theyd check for prints. it doesnt really add anything to the story unless he gets caught as a result...

reply

That is not a safe assumption though. There is still no guarantee that they would actually listen to the tape. The movie leaves that open.

As to why we were shown the cop saying they would check the car is beyond me. The only reason I can come up with is that they wanted to give us some suspense and let us think at first that they suspected Paul when the cop called him back. The car being checked for prints, of course, then also opens the possibility of the tape being found, which is left open.

reply

yea, if the tapes even still there...he could have moved it. i just thought about it as soon as the cop mentioned his car and was waiting for a scene that never came :(

reply

The tape is a total plot hole and loose end, they should have cut that scene as it's immediately what everyone thinks when the cop says they will dust the car. Prob left in to ohh ahh the viewers but doesn't work - should have test screened that part :)

reply

i agree. without the tape being found the 2 scenes are pointless imo

reply

It doesn't even makes sense that the cops would need to search his car, for prints or anything else. The two rich kids who escaped will simply testify that the two dead emo kids were their abductors. Paul says he runs into the emo kid, hits him, then drives away. There would be no reason, from the cops perspective, that they should need to search his car. And for prints? Whose prints? It doesn't make any sense.

Nothing you have to say is anywhere near as useful or important as you think it is.

reply

oh yea...wtf!! lol

reply

I picked up the reason the cops said they wanted to dust for prints is because when he showed up at the house at the end he said that he was attacked at the gas station by the Emo. They most likely just want to see if the Emo's prints are really in fact on the door as the man said and just confirm his story. But who knows it is pretty off key. It just seemed to me a way for them to find the tape recording. Which as I just read is in the deleted scenes of the DVD because that really had me wondering there at the end...

reply

Spoiler.
2) in the dvd, there is an alternate ending that shows when the police find the recorder and at the same time, Paul, who is in a car with his father, starts saying: oh no, oh god!. So he remember that he forgot the recorder in his car.
I have a question, Richard, Has a participation in the kidnapping? The kindnapper uses his house......

(SPOILERS AHEAD.) Near the start of the movie, our 'hero' leaves a message (via a hand-held tape recorder) for his mother in which he all but confesses to his pending crime. It was a very brief scene.... you may have missed it. The alternate ending that is featured on the DVD shows the police finding the tape recorder in the hero's car's glove box. If they then bothered to listen to the message, it is very likely that they would be able to figure out from him that he (the hero) was the crime's mastermind all along. OR (in the REAL ending, as featured in the movie), the hero likely took the tape recorder WITH him when he left his car for the last time.

Personally, I'm a bit more bothered by the fact that his male accomplice would not have any powder burns on his hand (from the final gunshot).... but then, the crime scene was so obvious, the cops would probably not test for that anyway.

He would have had dummy bullet stuff on his hands though surely, he was busting mad fake caps!

Lol do you guys think that that librarian could have anything to do with Paul possibly being caught, or testifying against him or something. Early on in the movie we see Paul studying the history of Dean and that girl at a library, and the librarian looks down and asks him if he's finished. Random point, but who knows.
