I thought it was better than the first (and I loved the first movie). I laughed a lot more.

I agree with this. I enjoyed the first one, but this was more consistently funny. We laughed pretty much all the way through.

I liked the 1st one more. I just didnt 100% get into it. My 8 yr old thought it was ok. Feel good movie with some chuckles, but no belly laughs. I cant put my finger on why. I just thought alot of the things that seemed to be hilarious, just were not to me.

I liked the mother though!

Same here. I found the 1st to be much better than expected. While i didnt really laugh at this, almost at all. A few chuckles, but as you said, literally ZERO belly laughs. It just had a different vibe than the 1st, clearly a different director...

First: 7 or 8 / 10
2nd: 4/10

Definitely better than the first one. I didn't find the first movie particularly entertaining, mainly because Greg's constant scheming made him come off as deeply unlikeable and self-serving, and that's not a quality that the narrator and focus character of a children's movie really needs.

Thankfully, this movie rectifies the problem by having things happen to Greg, rather than him instigating events, and placing more emphasis on Roderick. As many reviewers have noted, this makes the film seem a lot like a feature-length TV sitcom, and I'd agree that "Diary" would be well suited to such a format - if only "Malcolm in the Middle" hadn't gotten there first!

I was disappointed that Chloe Moretz didn't reprise her role from the previous movie, but in general, the quality of acting is much improved as the character seem to have settled into their roles somewhat - in particular, Steve Zahn as Greg's dad steals just about every scene he's in with his manic facial expressions.

I liked both movies very much and I don't understand IMDB low raiting it easily should have at least 6+. I understand it isn't an epic movie but it doesn't have to because it's a kids movie that's what about kids movies they are funny without a great story/script (although diary of wimpy kid 1 and 2 had very good stories I personally liked 1st one more but 2nd was funnier and more interesting).
