nature of the infection (major spoilers)

Like many zombie films, the infection is spread through a bite; the island's former doctor, seen on the videotape, states that a person quickly dies and then reanimates.

Yet, we also learn at this point that all living people are already infected, and will turn when they die, whatever it is that kills them. This is why people's meat must be harvested while they are still alive. Seems to me like the filmmakers want to have it both ways, because both ways are good for the plot.

Anyway, it's ridiculous to think that harvesting meat from living people will make any difference, if they're already infected.
