I wanted the IT guy and the soldier that killed zombies with the motor to survive. They were a funny duo. Best scene in the movie.

And yeah, I don't get why the writers think we care about Angela. I was pissed she survived in REC 2, but was glad she was possessed. They kind of killed it.

I didn't understand why they gave the mechanic one badass scene, then had him fall into a plot hole only to reemerge a zombie. Seems like a waste. The dementia-ridden lady also felt pointless by her end.

I empathized with the mechanic, the cook, and Nick, as put-upon worker bees being talked down to by their employers. The mechanic and the cook, especially, were disrespected (racism), so I wanted each of them to do some harm before the end.
