Since when is adultery romantic?

I didn't think it was romantic at all no matter how many music video moments you put into it.

I thought it was beautiful. I love this movie.

And the beauty of it is, is that you can root for these characters to allow themselves to fall in love and follow their hearts regardless of the affair because it is a movie. In real life this would not be romantic and if I knew people who did this I'd be going WTF? But thats what I love about movies and tv shows, you can root for the underdog, allow yourself to want something that isn't right or that you wouldn't do in real life.

I think the film is splendid and just so damn beautiful. Maybe it's the hopeless romantic in me, that I didn't knew exsit. Or maybe it's because I'm too big of a Stana fan. Not sure.

I'm incredibly conflicted when it comes to the cheating aspect. I'm totally against cheating, as I think most people are, but at the same time it's such a beautiful movie- both to look at and to experience emotionally. These people are in this little bubble and they love each other so much still and it's impossible not to act on it while they're away from their lives and with each other for this short time. I found myself wishing they could be together and then realizing that I hated that I wished that. But their love for each other is beautiful to watch and keeps me coming back over and over.

As long as you see the conflict in rooting for these too I think you are on the right path. This movie sells the romance between the two pretty well, but the fact is is that they are both adulterers and ultimately we can't root for them. I can see the illusion the director created, but seeing the reality passed that proves you won't let yourself fall for whoever gives you the best lip-service.

As to the adultery part, I agree. It just felt dirty to me, especially after Yves daughter called.

Your review was spot on, this picture would have worked better as a short. And Polish was just so self involved I wanted to slap him.

It was however a visually stunning movie, I will give it that.

Good review realjas.

Gorgeous cinematography, alas not much else.
The moral dilemma of stepping into this is barely broached.
The male character is really hard to like.
And the story just drags, no amount of cool black & white shots can save that.

The main thing that irritated me was the sound editing. I had to crank the volume to be able to decipher all their whispered sweet nothings, and then be blasted off my seat when the next "music video" would come blaring through the speakers.
I understand it was shot on a digital stills camera, so kudos for that, but the sound limitations should've been addressed.

Definitely a prime example of style over substance in my book.

On a side note I like the irony of his ringtone (for when his wife calls) being Sade's "Nothing Can Come Between Us".

Q: Since when is adultery romantic?
A: Since Stana Katic starred in this movie.

Can we make this quick? I need to give a banana to Annie's Boobs.

I found both the protagonists to be so unlikeable that it killed any feelings of romance for me. Selfish, narcissistic people do not make a romantic couple. The cinematography was indeed good though there were a lot of standard shots (running along the beach, riding the motorcycle, the waves crashing against the rocks etc.) I guess my biggest disappointment was that I found the two lovers excruciatingly boring. I'll say this much though....they did deserve each other.
