An unexpectedly great movie, very underrated.

I didn't know this movie existed until today. I had my TV on in the background and saw its beginning on FX and it got me interested with the characters and main problem of the plot.

Now, I know Kevin James and have seen him in a lot of stuff - and he's almost always had the same overly cheesy humor style to most of his shows and movies.

This movie, though? It was not the "normal" Kevin James. He was a much more serious character, a more connecting person with everyone else. The rest of the cast as a whole fit together as well (though I do think that Salma Hayek was a bad cliche "just there to be there" female character that Kevin "wins").

Even the kid characters that got involved were pretty nice, and Malia was a good character. I was really, really surprised because of how different it was for Kevin James.

And then I see that it's been considered a disappointing or just bad film, which is sad. I've seen reviews saying that the movie wasn't funny enough, and some threads here say that the trailers betrayed the movie.

I guess if that's the reasoning it is badly rated (that the movie wasn't funny enough), then I guess a lot of people truly didn't see the movie for what it was. I definitely didn't get the feeling that it was supposed to be a humor movie like Kevin is usually in - the first 15 minutes of the movie tells you that right away, with a rather gloomy beginning.

While not a masterpiece, I am still very happy to have seen it!

I enjoy it. One of the better Happy Madison films of the 2000s/2010s.
