Lol someone managed to find Portal 2 offensive

Point and laugh.

I can't say I can relate to what he is feeling, but I can tell that they are making a mountain out of a molehill. Really, those jokes were only used to characterize the villian. Just as GLaDOS continuously calls Chell fat even though it's obvious she isn't, the 'adopted' jokes were written only to show that GLaDOS is using something innocent that Chell herself had no control over to insult her. The jokes aren't used to actually make fun of adopted people but to show how ridiculous and heartless the jokester is.

They're taking this way too seriously.

Did they miss the part where GLaDOS is a bitch and Wheatley's a moron? Why are they putting so much stock in anything they say? Also, they're both villains. That right there tells you that anything they say/do is automatically wrong until proven otherwise, at least from the simplified, black and white point of view you might use when using a fictional story to teach a child anything about morality.

Besides, it's not like that was the first adoption joke in the game, right? Actually, there was at least one in the first game. Wasn't that one a fair warning? Or did we just skip over the first game and jump right into its continuation with no context to the story? </pet peeve>

It offends me that they were so offended.

I love how the morons claimed that Sony was passing the buck. Obviously it's Sony's fault... even though the game is distributed on the Xbox and on PC as well.

I'd call them retarded but I don't want to insult those with mental disabilities by comparing them with newscasters.

Edit: And I feel bad for the girl playing. The game got shut off and she was almost DONE with the solo campaign!

Newscasters don't research anything having to do with games. Couple of months ago a newscaster reported that a man tried to meet an underaged girl he met on "run escape" "That's my bread and butter your #@$&^%# with." - Nathan Explosion

reply

*snort* Okay. That's awesome.

Another detail is that if the girl was that close to the end, there is no way she "missed" all of the earlier orphan insults that came from GLaDOS. 50 bucks says she just said she didn't hear them because she was already embarrassed by her father's asinine behavior.

You know, she's probably going to get picked on more at school for being an orphan because of the news report.

reply

Hell, he porbably adopted her so he could do a "Woody Allen" once his wife gets older and less attractive.

reply

I knew someone who be pissed when hearing the joke, but I thought it was hilarious. I am not adopted, though.

Okay...this is my biggest problem with the game rated E10+...people automatically assume it's for children. (That and the fact that it's a video game!) The only reason it's rated that is because there's nothing wrong with it except for a little violence and cussing. The first game had blood in it, which bumped it up to Teen, but for some reason they decided to take the blood out and make it E10+.

But the people who rate the game didn't take the jokes into context. There is a lot of dark humor in both games such as the AIs both glibly talking about killing Chell.

reply

I think it's hillarious how the whole game talks about death, burning houses down, making fun of fat people (Well not really, just saying that Chell is fat even though she isn't), cussing such as Damn and Hell, and insulting arguments. But no, saying the word "Adopted" is just too horrible, WAY worse than everything combined.

I hope you all know I was being sarcastic and making fun of the dad who did that. I think he just wanted some attention, or he is just plain insane. Oh boo hoo your adopted daughter might hear the word "adopted" might as well turn the freaking game off forever. What is he going to do when she is a teenager? Is she going to be 25 and not allowed to watch South Park?

reply

What I didn't understand was it was like he was hiding the fact that she is adopted because he would rather wait until she is older so they can sit her down and tell her...
I know the little girl is wearing glasses but if she is playing Portal 2 then she obviously isn't blind. So, surely she knows she is adopted! I mean, she's Chinese and the rest of the family are American!

reply

Plus I'm sure she probably asked her dad why there was a freaking camera crew and the news at her house. I wonder what lie he told her..

Plus, I would rather be told when I was little instead of when I'm older, because it hurts more when your older, when your little then it's not as bad. I'm 15 and if I was just now told that I was adopted I wouldn't know how to react, but if I was told when I was like 4 or 5 then I really wouldn't mind much.

reply

I still think the dad has yellow fever.

reply

Exactly! It's like: "Hey, kid, we're decided the best way for you to feel normal is to bring in a camera crew to awkwardly film you while you play video games! You know, the same video game we always freak out at a certain part of, but we won't tell you why?"

I mean, I can kind of understand why they found it offensive. Sure, the antagonists are meant to be jerks, but the game can be pretty in-your-face about it, and it could be confusing to her. But the way they handled it probably made it worse.

reply

Precisely. Just because something is deemed "appropriate" for children doesn't necessarily mean that it's intended ONLY for children.

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

reply

That is the only part that they were offended by? What about the earlier part where GlaDOS promises to reunite you with your parents but then laughs at you when you turn up in an empty room. Or the part where she calls them only to have them tell you that they don't want to talk to you.

reply

I replayed the level and literally right after that sentance, GLaDOS says "What is wrong with being adopted?"

reply

[deleted]

But the reason why it's funny is because we know it's not terrible and we know it's ridiculous to make fun of someone on account. Not a single person playing the game is laughing at the fact that Chell is adopted, nor are they intended to.

What if a squirrel wants a sausage?

reply

The guy is obviously overreacting. The issue isn't that the game is "making fun of" adopted people. That was obviously just used to show the characters' attitude. The real issue here it that isn't what it said about adoption, its that it brought up adoption period. As he stated in the video, he hasn't talked to about it with his daughter yet and now this game is bringing it up, just like a sex scene in a movie that a kid watches before the kid's parents have given him "the talk". It's not the games fault, he just is upset that he was put in an uncomfortable situation. I totally support adoption but I bet it is awkward explaining it to the kid. He is upset because it was made more awkward and wants to blame someone.

reply

"Most test subjects come out of hibernation horribly undernourished. I just wanted to congratulate you on somehow managing to pack on a few pounds."

Love this part.

Also, as I am adopted, I have no shame in admitting so. It's not bad to be adopted, just because the game pokes fun at this means absolutely nothing! Chell gets made fun of for being "fat" and adopted. Wheatley gets pwned for being stupid. And GlaDOS gets a bad rap for being a cold-blooded murderer. It's just a game folks.

Do you think they're cognizant of how bad they got it?
Lets hope not poor b@sterds
