Christ...

I'm an Ami living in Germany and Comedy Central here picked this crap show up and it is so painfully unfunny and unoriginal... guys with mullets being morons... really hard to make fun of that... at least Beavis and Butthead had some social commentary and that was over 15 years ago... damn, I hope "Mr. Show" can hit the European market at some point so people here can see something that is actually funny.

reply

The scetches cant be translated to German. They did, but it fails. The characters and the show represent a cartoonisch version of a subculture in Holland. The show is a huge succes in Holland, but without growing up in Holland, you will never really 'understand' the show.

reply

This subculture does not exist and never existed in Holland. It takes place in Noord-Brabant, which is not part of Holland.

reply

Hulde! Hollanders denken dat alles Holland is. Groeten van een Fries!

Haha daar ben je ff goed teruggepakt hè met New Kids Nitro :D

reply

Holland is generally the name used for "the Netherlands", dumbass.

reply

Yeah yeah, but you're not Dutch, are you?

Holland actually refers to the West-Northwest area of the Netherlands (now two provinces). Through the years foreign people (and inhabitants of Holland too) called The Netherlands 'Holland', mainly because of it's historical importance, but the label isn't quite right.

Holland is just a part of The Netherlands, just like Brabant and Friesland are.

The names of the provinces originate from the counties and duchies in the Middle Ages.

On: because the Dutch cultural references and subtleties (or perhaps in this case it better called 'unsubtleties') in language, the movie will, probably only be funny for Dutch speaking people.

reply

People who insist on making this correction should go walk off a cliff. Everybody knows what he meant. Sincerely, a Dutch person.

reply

Eventhough it is correct, you should also learn that in The Netherlands it is accepted to refer to The Netherlands as Holland. It was clear that in the posters remark he referred to The Netherlands as Holland, you were just poking sticks by throwing in this fact. If you didnt, well then you learned something new about the The Netherlands again.. and this time you didnt need Wiki.

reply

acctually if you would call me a hollander i would be offended im proud of my frisian heritage and to me a hollander is someone from the western part of the netherlands.

Poking sticks or whatnot i dont care i just want to be called an hollander hence i would even accept the phrase k*t Fries since i would take that as a compliment since that person is awknowliging my herritage.

reply

Don't be such a pathetic little local patriot. Your heritage, give me a break. We live in 2011, not the freakin 19th century! It is common knowledge that, both abroad and within our own borders, people refer to the parliamentary democratic constitutional monarchy "Kingdom of the Netherlands" (the Netherlands, for short) as "Holland". So when a person refers to "Holland" in a thread like this on an international website such as IMDB, you know damned well what he means.

Actually, the fact that you being a frisian feel so offended when people refer to you as 'hollander' or refer to the Netherlands as "Holland" shows how arrogant and backward some of you people really are, up north. People call you a name they consider to be a common name for all people living in one of the 12 provinces, they don't tell you to move to friggin Amsterdam or the Hague, do they? Can you even imagine how pathetic you look whining about this century old farmer's identitycrisis when you think how small and insignificant the Dutch culture really is? It's like a guy living in Harlem, whining about how people call him a New Yorker. Or a guy from L.A. coming to Europe, whining how people call him "American" instead of U.S. Citizen.

Give it a *beep* rest.

“I feel so miserable without you; it's almost like having you here.”

reply

Nicely put sir.

Arguing that Holland merely refers to the two provinces of Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland and not the Netherlands as a whole is a lot like arguing that when people speak of Great Britain that they only speak of England, Wales and Scotland and not Northern Ireland.

Also with respect to this Frisian pride thing: unless I'm mistaken, West-Friesland, which was part of Frisia, since the early 1800s geographically lays in North-Holland. So if you're living in the province of Friesland at current and feel offended when people say that you're from Holland, it seems to me you're stabbing your own ancestors in the back. I could be wrong of course.

reply

[deleted]

A Fries, in an international context, is actually someone FROM HOLLAND. Because Friesland is part of Holland. God, freaking seperatists. Move to Germany already.

reply

[deleted]

You're a dumbass. Holland = the Netherlands. The Netherland = Holland. Nothing changes that, not even your misplaced fake Fries chauvinism. Holland Boppe!

reply

Way to be a pedantic douchebag. It's commonplace to refer to the Netherlands as Holland, so why be a little bitch about it?

reply

Thank you!! It's so *beep* obnoxious.

reply

It did exist, in the nineties.
They were called "gabbers" and they listened to gabber house and (happy) hardcore

They were morons who did drugs and whose weekends solely consisted of parties where they would "dance" to monotone crap music and fight because someone dared to look their way, or some other stupid reason like that

It's fun to see how these guys make fun of this overrated subculture that considered itself to be really something back then

i grew up here and i don't understand it its just a ripp off from trailerparkboys and no wonder Antonie Kamerling killed himself i would kill myself to if i was in this movie xD

I have to admit, I was being a little too critical...I mean, I realize there are so many things that don't translate well into other languages. I was a tad angry because I was missing shows I enjoy...even though I have them all on my pc. At the time I felt like nothing was funny in Germany...but also, my language skills weren't as good as they are now. I appreciate the first season of Stromberg. I'm not that familiar with Dutch humor, either. Anyway, I'm learning.

reply

One of the worst Dutch films I ever saw, I don't understand how you people can find that funny.
Oh, and do understand the language, as I'm Flemish.

reply

Flikker toch op vuile lilleke mongool! (Try to google translate that!)

You could never understand the humor, it's even funier if your from there like me. And trust me, not all American shows are all that funny.

reply

Verrekte kut!!lol

serously it is hard to see these 'nederlanders of hollanders' on this board dont even know what is part of there country... noord-brabant is a province of holland or netherlands no difference in between the two

serieus mensen dit leerde ik in groep 2 van de basisschool en jullie mongolen weten dat niet eens... kanker is schaamde me al voor 'mijn' volk, maar na het lezen van dit hier is het nog erger geworden...

ow ontopic this movies sucked balls, it showed you cant bring 1 or 2 minute clips in a 90 minute movie.... the part were they didnt have any money left for the movie was the most painfull part, very unoriginal and very painfull to sit thru

besides the coppyd most of there *beep* from sjonnie & willie from Jiskefet which is 10 times more fun

reply

Waar heb je het eigenlijk over??

reply

This movie is funnier than 97% of the *kuche* comedies Hollypoop *beep* out..

reply

SAY WHAT! The netherlands suck at making movies!!! the writers here have no sence of humor! the actors cant act! how dare you say that! every movie that will ferrell of steve carrell made is way better! and i'm not even gonna start about jim carrey! SHAME ON YOu SIR SHAME!!!!

reply

It probably doesn't translate abroad, no. That does make it somewhat less. The film "Flodder" was also about a Dutch white trash family and did have international succes.

And although it isn't my type of humour either, a lot of people do think it's funny. It's just a matter of taste.
This trailer doesn't make me a fan eiter, but it still looks good. And it's a good thing that a tv-series got made into a big movie. At least here in The Netherlands it is.

And I have to disagree with Nova, this tv-show might have been a succes (even though I haven't heard much of its ratings), but I'm sure it's not a huge succes.

But Ami, don't give up on Dutch tv just yet. :-)

I'm born and raised in the Netherlands and I'm a huge fan of Dutch standup comedians like Hans Teeuwen, Youp van 't Hek, Theo Maasen and some other Dutch television series like Koot en de Bie, jiskefet, Debiteuren Crediteuren.
New Kids is not my cup of tea, it's cheesy, predictable, stupid and weak I can't believe that people really like this stuff.

Een ras Hagenees!!!

Oh Oh Den Haag...

[deleted]

Do not find it remotely funny at all. swearing in dialect? i didn't find it funny even when I was twelve.

reply

Should I bow to your superior cultural taste or pity your lack of humor?

I'll go with the latter.

reply

Wat een mensen hier.. noord brabant geen deel van Nederland, Holland een deel van Nederland.. WTF zijn jullie voor kut idioten joh? zooitje ongeschoold..

This movie rules btw.. U either hate it, or love it.. I personally dont care which of the two, 'cause I had fun!

reply

[deleted]

On topic: I can't imagine anyone going to this movie and not liking it. It is exactly what you'd expect from them. If you don't like their style, why go in the first place?

reply

I didn't have a choice. As for a lack of humor, I like 30 rock but I also love the Young ones. Perhaps I just don't like being reminded that I used to share a classroom with people like the protagonists.

reply

Indeed it is not. Before calling me names and insinuating me being nuts, go check your sources.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holland
This source (Although wikipedia isn't the most reliable source, you point it out suggesting you find it reliable enough) should also clear out Holland does not equal (AKA) The Netherlands.

I feel sorry for you.

reply

Bullsh!t. There's no difference in Holland or the Netherlands

"Hup, HOLLAND, hup"?
The Dutch people sing this when the national soccerteam has to play.

"Holland Sport" and "Ik hou van Holland" are both shows about "the Netherlands"
Not about the west of the Netherlands.

There are more examples, but you can look for them yourself.

On topic:
Liked the movie mostly because I live near Maaskantje, so I recognize a lot of stuff, but it definitly doesn't deserve an oscar.
It has it's funny moments and it has some great dutch actors/comedians starring in it, and that's about it.
Glad I watched it once, but I

reply

No, "Holland" technically and officially is part of the Netherlands, not the Netherlands itself. Like how "England" is often used, incorrectly, to refer to the UK. Yes, it can be used to refer to the Netherlands, but that is incorrect, and often leads to insult. Saying "there is no difference" between the two terms is incorrect.

reply

Holland isn't part or an province of the Netherlands. Rather North-Holland and South-Holland are the actual provinces. Though those parts are mainly referred to as "Holland" by the people in the South of the Netherlands (example: first episode from Flikken Maastricht).

You are incorrect in understanding the equivalent to England. North-Holland and South-Holland are equal to the West-Midlands and the East-Midlands in England. Rather your assumption is that North-Holland and South-Holland are separate like Scotland, Wales and England. That is incorrect. It's all part of the Netherlands. If the Dutch speak of Holland in the west of the Netherlands, we always say North or South-Holland. Never as Holland, atleast I don't live in the Southern part of the Netherlands where they appear to say that (First episode, first season of Flikken Maastricht it's been mentioned that way).

For the rest of us Dutchmen, Holland usually refers to the Netherlands. As said, when the Dutch footbalteam plays, we encourage Holland, "Hup Holland Hup". Holland is a term we have used for a very long time. Holland can also refer to the "old" Netherlands, such as country sides, farmers, windmills, the "almost" lost culture of the old Dutch way of living.

lol, and now on-topic:
New Kids Turbo is a terrible shame for the Dutch. I have to admit, a lot of Dutch youngsters are getting very close to anti-social behaviour. This movie didn't set the change in motion, but rather tried to tune in on the behaviour change. I'm somewhat ashamed of this movie, because it's pure nonsense full of terrible bullocks like "calling names in the worst sense" and everyone has to die off in the movie. In my opinion it's not even worth a 2 on the scale of 10. Full with nonsense and encouraging even more anti-social behaviour. There was no suspense, no drama, no action. It was just bullocks, even the story about the "economical crisis" was getting old after 3 years, we already recovered from the "crisis" why even bother with a new story about the long-gone-by "economical crisis".

reply

You clearly don't understand. Wales, Scotland and Ireland are all part of the UK. But still the entire country, i.e. the UK, is often referred to as 'England'. These regions are not seperate when it comes to nationality, they all have the same federal laws, the same passports, the same traffic rules etc. They are one country. The same goes for the provinces in The Netherlands. Although the Hollands were the most powerful provinces, they do not represent the entire country.

It has NOTHING to do with the Midlands.
