underrated

ok, so the story wasn't as epic as one would expect, but imo, the action was great.

as far as i know, i didn't see much wire work, so most of the action was authentic. what i liked most was, and that's also what donnie said in an interview, is that we see fights with different weapons.

we see guan yu's guan dao (halberd) vs a spear fight, against a two-handed sword, sword vs sword...

whoever really likes martial arts should also like the side of martial arts where (classic) weapons are employed. to me it was really a joy to watch donnie yen going at it with his halberd. the thing is so heavy yet he wielded it so graceful to battle!

ye, wu xia should've won big prizes imo. the movie was so great and refreshing and at a very different pace then one would expect.

You're an idiot.

thanks for your insightful comment.

however, i still stand by my opinion. the story was quite predictable in the movie.

the original story from the novel was better though, but that's not what we're discussing about, are we?

people going into this will very pleasantly surprised even if they're familiar with donnie yen. Some of the fight scenes were done very well and stuff I've never seen done before..very impressive and nice change for once in a while not the same usual crouching tiger style crap.

you should take a look at dragon. that's also something you don't expect from donnie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1718199/

Yes..... very authentic. I think in this movie alone, Guen Ye massacres a thousand people or more, without any help. Basically, it's like Rambo times a hundred in terms of realism/authenticity.

In other words, the film is crap. In fact, although I've never read the original fairy tale of 3 kingdoms, I imagine heroes there were not depicted as invincible as Guen Ye is depicted in this film. Hell, even in the wire kung fu films you see less invincible heroes.
