Saw this last night in India

The movie released here a week early yesterday. I watched in a packed theatre. Loved every bit of it. Way better than Slumdog Millionaire if you count hollywood movies about India/Indians

Because they watch movies for enjoyment they lose their credibility? What a moronic, pretentious, comment. Seriously, if you don't enjoy a movie but its "technically" good do you still praise it? Or what about if you enjoy a "bad" movie, do you say "its a terrible film so a gave it 3 but I liked it"?

If you expect a normal adventure style film this is lacking, but it is wonderful as a vehicle showing cultural differences and personal courage. I enjoyed this film... I also liked Godzilla... so there you have it.

I also enjoyed this film, and there were a few funny moments. There is about 20 seconds of dancing. What a shame because I love the dance style, Bollywood. I agree about showing cultural differences, especially concerning praying.

It was as good as Slumdog in that both films actually showed real people dressed and behaving realistically. Bollywood movies and even Indian soaps have house wives walking around in Benarsis ,cooking,cleaning,then going to bed in the same clothes,heavy gold earrings,bangles,necklaces and elaborate hair. These movies had no stars,no divas demanding that they still had to have a perfect manicure even though they were playing the role of an orphaned cousin with no prospects (and dark skin-yikes!) We cheered when we saw the trucks and cars and crowds of people welcoming JB and the entourage to the village. The clothes were average quality same as Slumdog. It's the quality of the people,not the clothes,that counts. Once you see the standard Indian outfit for the working class ,you'll always recognize the real thing.White shirt,top button missing,sleeves halfway rolled up but already falling down.Stains everywhere, faded,washed hundreds of times,now just a shadow,but covering 50% of the white shirt. The pants might be a boys 28 corduroy in gold with a wide black belt-very hip.Or a lungi wrapped knee length and a gamcha around his head. Authenticity. was not cliche.It was refreshing.
