Key in Jakob's story.... Spoilers

The director of this filmed alluded to a "key" in Jakob's POV in regards to the chronology of the story a few years ago. I think there is one scene in there that makes it more clear what happens in the end. Janice survives the fall down the stairs and does not die. She breaks her neck and is placed in a wheelchair. You can see a scene in Jakob's POV in which Janice is wheelchaired in for a visit with her son (possibly days or weeks after her attempted murder of Paige). So two things from this: she does attempt to murder Paige (some people claimed she imagined this whole thing), and survives the fall down the stairs.

What this does not clarify is what happened to paige. Given that Janice has a broken neck and is in a wheelchair, I'll assume that Janice did not get up from the floor and beat Paige with an umbrella (maybe that was her only imagined part after the fall). Therefore, it's possible Paige was able to escape and then the cops arrived and detained Janice.
