I did not want to mention gun in the title because it is way too spoilerish, even if it is in the first five minutes of the movie.

Anyway, I watched this movie twice and I must be missing something.

When Mom tries to shoot Paige, she gets off one shot and then the gun does not fire, to mom's frustration. Interestingly, the gun is off screen when it just 'clicks'.

Question: Did the gun jam ("Revolvers don't jam") or is there some other explanation I am missing. Maybe it has something to do with the theory that mom never actually goes in the house and only dreams that her attempt to off Paige would not work.

I just watched it - sorry to reply to a super old comment! I thought the gun ran out of bullets? Full disclosure: I have only ever handled a pellet gun and know nothing about "real" ones.
