Interesting how the old man sort of became a goat in the last day of his life. He finds a goat bell in the hills and puts it in his coat pocket. When he goes out in the night to try to get some more floor dust at the church, the bell is still clanking inside his pocket. He seems to be oblivious to this. As he goes about his fruitless mission, he retains a goat-like sense of perseverance.

Wass floor dust from the church what he put in his water at night? For the blessing? Otherwise, what do you mean, why was he going at night for floor dust?
I didn't quite understand those bits.
^Apparently the old woman who cleaned the church saved the floor dust for the old man. This he put in his nightly water believing somehow that it was beneficial to his health.
shareYes, that's what happened. and he got panic stricken when he found that he lost his daily portion of dust, while squatting. So he tries to get a new portion, but the church door remains closed. That same night he dies.
