Bad Movie

Spoilers.

To begin with, the one shoot camera did not fit well in the movie. What was the point? To dark for my taste. I know that showing little or nothing (total darkness) can produce an effect of desperation, but this movie used it excessively. You do not see a thing in the hole movie, from the begining to the end, just flashes and dirty walls.
The movie plot is a copy of High Tension, uruguayan way. Scariesta part in the film, the credits, with fake photographs.
You´ve seen this movie 10 times.

Yeah I was not impressed. SO much potential here, but kinda fell flat for us. I did think the use of dim and diffused lighting was lovely and effective, but it should have been used a bit more wisely for effect, not for the duration! This and the slowish pace made me drowsy, and the story was just so-so. My man is into filmmaking and pointed out to me where there were a few cleverly disguised cuts.

reply

Those shots you speak of, just showing darkness: Those were used to make a cut so they could change the memory stick in the camera. The cameras they used only shoot 12 minutes of HD footage before being empty. So there were at least 7 or 8 cuts in the film.

reply

And yet the main promotional point behind this film is that it's shot in 1 continuous take, which I knew was bull the first time I saw it.

Even if you hate Uwe Boll, give Postal a try, be offended or entertained.

OMG, no way!
Next thing you're gonna tell me that The Blair Witch Project did NOT really happen!

reply

I agree, I didn't like this one bit.

The main character's reactions to things happening, and the constant slow searching around the house made no sense at all.
And the everlasting moving around with the lantarn around walls and objects made me want to leave the theatre! (I didn't)

Single shot (which is a lie) stuff was useless.

complete and utter rubbish. not scary. tedious. plot makes no sense. why would she want to wander around a dark house where he father has been killed? Ridiculous.

I know it's a short film, but it felt like a long one!

Also, I just discovered that there is more movie after the closing credits. What's the point of that? Everyone will have left by then? How are they supposed to know they are meant to stay to watch another 15 mins of movie?

she's looking for the keys. pay attention when you watch a movie.

Signature must be fewer than 100 characters in length

gotta agree, this movie was so boring, 10 minutes in i set it at x2 speed and it still dragged.

I actually thought the first half was pretty creepy. Not terrifying, by any stretch of the imagination, but it had some good atmosphere. Then came the "twist". I knew it was coming. It seems as if every movie nowadays has to have some kind of retarded explanation about the events that totally negates every second of film that came before it.

This is another one of those movies.

I thought this movie was fantastic. The way it was shot was to go on the story with Laura every second. I have my speculation that it was shot all in one cut, but filmed fantastically. It gave a very isolated and her against "the killer(s)" feeling. I felt the film was very creepy, and required some imagination. I see how it isn't for everyone, but I loved it.

To flee is life. To linger, death.

I just saw it and While trying to make it look like a single take was an interesting feat the movie mostly bored me out of my mind... and the whole theater as well. I am serious this was probably the only movie the audience started to talking on the midle of the film, laughing, making noises, scaring the ones at the front... and nobody called security because nobody cared enough. By the time it was over people were already slept, gone or just mocking the movie. You need a special way to suck to manage that.

The movie was dull most of the time, more than half an hour was spent just looking randomly around the house, you could take the most interesting parts of the movie and recout them again in a 15 minute film at most. When there was dialogue you couldn't even hear what they were saying. Even the blair witch project was more interesting in the way it sucked.

And I can't honestly believe how this film got such positive critics and a remake.

There's just not enough relevant stuff happening. Can't even begin to compare this to REC.

reply

I got scared a bit with this movie and I don't usually get scared with any movie.
For example REC and Paranormal Activity were like jokes to me.

i was mostly annoyed at the sound track. the girl sobbed and cried throughout the whole movie, it was very annoying. yes i get it, she is scared. but ayone in that situation would have to come to terms and eventually be quiet for at least a few minutes. i found the whole thing boring and annoying.

One of my top five favorite movies is Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles. It's nearly three and a half hours long and the bulk of it is comprised of seven- or eight-minute-long, static, nearly-silent shots of a bored housewife doing things like making meatloaf and sitting in a chair. It is utterly transfixing and at times devastating. There is a moment when she drops a fork on the floor that will make your heart skip a beat, and I am not at all joking or exaggerating.

I do not have ADHD.

The Silent House, however, is tedious garbage.
