Is the big dragon in the first movie an alpha then? and why was it evil

It must have been an alpha because it controlled the other dragons. Was it really evil or just very hungry?

Well yea thats what I thought as well, the alpha idea was obviously not thought of when the first movie was made

It wasn't an Alpha. It was just a big dragon that bullied the others into giving him food.

It was not an Alpha, I believe they killed a Queen dragon. Remember the mom saying every nest has a Queen, but there can only be one Alpha. Well, that's atleast how I read it.
