How is this rated better than the first one?
This had none of the magic that the first one had - the "drawing" scene with Hiccup and Toothless in the first, alone, was better than anything other scene in the second. I don't get it.

I loved this movie i watched it last night on Sky.
HTTYD2 was simply superb.
I laughed, and i cried. It was fast paced, and had some really good comedy scenes, was quite poignant without being slushy, and sad too but some how the death of hiccups father was dealt with in such a way you didnt dwell on his death, but rejoiced in hiccup finally growing up and becoming a worthy leader.
What a great movie will watch it again. (And again i expect lol). P.S. I am 63 year grandmother lol.
It's not really fair to fault a -sequel- for not having the same 'magic' as the first. Now that the universe has been established, and that vikings are now friendly with the dragons, it's only natural that such 'magic' scenes would now be 'lost,' now that Hiccup has already bonded with Toothless and are now chummy chummy (as you can see in the sequel). Notice how all the dragons are actually interacting with each other and being rather playful and goofy? Did you see how Hiccup and Toothy acted more like best buds in the sequel? Their interactions with each other shows how much closer they are since they've met. None of this was ever seen in the original. The 'magic' is still there if you look at it from that perspective.
Personally, I think the dragon/dragon, the dragon/human and the human/human interactions in the sequel makes the world/universe more 'lively' and 'believable.' It's one of the things that really stands out compared to the original.

Toy Story 2 and 3 accomplished it. "Dawn of the Dead" and "Day of the Dead" accomplished it.
HTTYD2 didn't do it because there really wasn't anywhere for the plot to go after the first movie.
So you're asserting your opinion to be correct? Many people disagree.
shareI won't argue with you as everyone has their own opinions, but Toy Story was the best of the three movies. HTTYD2 is a much better sequel than both of those movies IMO.
shareTotally agree. The first film was epic, and really should have won the Oscar over TS3.
However, this one just was bland to me. The introduction of the mother just didn't work. The big death scene had no emotional weight at all. Compare the death scene from the Lion King for perspective.
Sorry, this one fell short.
Waiting patiently for Kung-Fu Panda III. Very high expectations.
This, those are the 2 main issues I had with part II as well. Additionally, Hiccup not being the underdog like he was in part I and a less developed kinship with Toothless than what was displayed in part I.
shareHow was it less developed? Because the Alpha controlled toothless? They are playing off the animal nature of the dragon.
shareYou just want a Dreamworks "Disney sequel" with the Disney feelings from the first? Watch the TV series, way better than most Disney show made nowadays.
shareH.T.T.Y.D. 1: 8/10
H.T.T.Y.D. 2: 5/10
Yeap, the storyline had premise but it lacked the proper execution. I thought the mother was shown as mental with the way she was introduced (up until she met stoick) and was half waiting for her to lose her *beep* lol
Felt like they didnt spend enough time on or just rushed the editing.
I would say Erets character development from hating dragons to becoming a rider himself was well done. Maybe not as good as Hiccup and Toothless's story to some but it did just as well imo.
Overall great movie.
because even that the first one is awesome and one of the best animated movies i have seen, this in fact is actually better and sorry that you 5 from 100 people did not enjoy the movie for your pathetic taste in films.
shareWay to be completely mature about your differing in opinion with people. Some people just did not like the 2nd one like they did the 1st. Clearly they liked the 1st one, and oh, so did you I presume! They can't have that bad of taste in films clearly.
