ok in IMDB Triva section for this Movie it says

Number 5 on her Wishlist is 5. I'll have a credit card like Mommy's.

When she was in the store with Jay and Jay dropped his wallet and they couldn't buy her dress... Leading her to wish to be treated like an ADULT. why the hell didn't she just wish for a CREDIT CARD! That's just Stupid.

though you make a good point I believe the reason she wishs to be a growen up is because the girl who she share a birthday with told the sales women that she is just a kid and that she is wasting the sales women's time. so the sales women starts treating her like she is kid. I may be wrong I haven't seen the movie in a bit
