Did anyone over 30 like this movie ?

Did anyone that has seen this that was over 30 years old like this movie ? I just picked 30 years old because by then you should be mature enough to know what is funny and if it has humor and/or just childish non-policital correctness to it. Just wondering.

Issues or a sense of humour? Comedy is purely subjective, to judge another's sense of humour is futile - to denigrate it is even worse.

reply

Then again, sometimes you can tell quite a bit about a person by what makes them laugh.

reply

Judging someone and forbidding them to a type of humor. Prejudice lives doesn't it

reply

Thanks for telling me I have issues. In future, I will be sure to get your permission before watching a movie.

reply

I guess I must have major issues :D I'm an Arab woman over the age of 30, practically crashing into 40 who was entertained by this satire...huge issues ;)

On a more serious note, if you want a "clean" comedy that's not over the top or slapstick, watch "Intouchables" French 2011 movie, but it's not pure comedy.

Intouchables was such a good movie. It uplifted my spirits for that entire day! :D

nah.... you are Arab woman so age doesn't matter. you are born with an issue :)
especially if you are from Egypt..huge issues ;)

P.S. I'm just kidding.. since you loved the movie, I'm assuming you must find such dumb joke hilarious :D

reply

I wouldn't go as far as hilarious :) But yeah being an Arab woman in Egypt is not that fun at times ;) PS. I said entertained not loved the movie.

reply

I understand :)
point is, throwing only shocking or offensive things, doesn't make it funny. it was dark humor at its worst. or maybe I'm wrong, maybe South Park spoiled me :)

reply

I agree, but maybe because the fun was poked at me/my people (whatever) I wasn't as offended, even if he took some truths and blew them way out of proportion. I believe if he had been ridiculing another ethnic group than mine I may have found it more offensive and intolerable...

perhaps the movie its not funny to you because its a mirror of you degrading corrupt goverment the source of all evil in the world as for me i laugh like hell america sucks and btw what a ridiculous question

reply

BarraKas Inter, your post shows your arrogance and ignorant bigoted mind. Learn a little history and stop blaming yours and the worlds problems on a very young country that has proven to be the most generous country on the planet.

reply

If you consider bombs to be donations then yes, the us is the most generous country.
Over 30 and enjoyed the movie, I guess you ofcourse need to be politically aware to understand all of the jokes.

reply

I guess the brainwashing took in your case? :)

Remember that last bit in the movie, the speech he gives at the UN? All of it, every last little detail, is a fact that pertains to your young, generous country. And no, it's not the same everywhere else.

reply

I'd call you a xenophobic *beep* but it takes a certain level of intelligence to understand four-syllable words & I doubt you're at that level. So, I'll just point out that the platform you used to bitch about America is on an American website about an American-made movie starring American actors. On another note, how is grade school going?

The knack to flying lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

reply

The lead actor/creative mind is not an american. What does the platform has to do with the message btw? Arent you guys fond of freedom of speech? Very big contradiction to take credit for this movie while not allowing follow up comments.

reply

I didn't say ALL the actors were American. Or even that the lead actor was. And he has the right to say what he did. Just like I have the right to call him a bigoted *beep* for it. Just because we're "fond of freedom of speech" doesn't mean we just take jingoistic *beep* & smile back.

IMDB was started by a brit, this movie was made by a brit and the cast is just people the payed to do their job.

I guess you didn't get your facts "exactly right" - as if there's a degree of "right" facts can be - lesson learned from your leadership? :D :D :D

reply

Yes,this movie was just so stupid it wasnt offensive at all.Bruno was so offensive it was funny cause alot of it was true but exxagerated.im 31 and still laugh at borat and to a lesser ectent bruno.

reply

I thought the names thing was kinda funny, and it didn't take up that much of my time; thus == funny. The helicopter bit didn't send me to my knees or nothin', but given it's relative time cost, I didn't castigate the film for its inclusion. You're a douche, make no mistake. Men don't like you; women don't want you.

What was the last "funny" film you watched?

reply

well.. how do you judge how FUNNY funny is? hmmmm.. I guess the newest, as in most recently relased funny movie I remember.. was "Sex Drive" a few years back? Can't remember anything newer than that one.. I am sure there was something in there that I am not thinking of. But I liked "Sex Drive" from beginning to end playing with the whole 80s kinda road movie.. fun characters, and a bit over the top as well. James Marsden was hilarious doing his own riff on the evil big brother..

I thought "The Dictator" was funny, in spots. But over all nothing incredibly special about it. And I'd rank it as his least, solo, effort. I think I'd put it as Borat or Ali G for the #1 followed by Bruno (even though I admit, Bruno did have some great just WTF funny moments) then this.

Honestly.. alot of the jokes I kind of wish they had went a bit further with at times.. someone said this felt like of like a stripped down (or dumbed down) movie version of Borat.. but part of the film it still has the feel/structure of Borat/Bruno (at times) but it isn't a REAL film (as in completely scripted).

I did enjoy his speech at the end to the UN. and honestly that is mostly what I found funny in this one, was not the sight gags, etc, but much like when you listen to Ali G doing an interview and even Borat when he addresses the rodeo for example, is just what he slips into the dialogue. But Aladeen's speech to the UN I thought was funny as hell, just those moments are too few and far between.

oh.. and 35 here.. and been a fan since the HBO days..

MIB 3.

reply

Nah it was a bit weird. I don't get they you would make a movie about poking fun at general dictator stereotypes which only grown ups would really appreciate, and then make it so full of such immature jokes? It just seems a weird design to me... The average person who was around to see the Iran/Iraq war and gaddafi doing his thing in the 80's etc.. is surely too old to enjoy the childish stuff. And kids who might get a kick out of it, a lot of the other stuff would go over their heads.

Don't get me wrong there were some funny bits, but it just seemed lazy to me. I didn't like Bruno either. I think he peaked with Ali G and Borat was ok (movie not as much as the series), but since then I think he is just cashing in on his name. Shame because it could have been funny. It makes me wish I just stayed home and watched Hot Shots or something.

reply

i really dont like people who feel their opinion is the only one. the original poster doesnt realize that it comes down to a matter of taste. its ok to state your opinion , but to assume that 30 year olds should consider this movie unfunny or childish, or politically incorrect... just because HE does... just infuriates me. This Movie is hilarious. anyone who loses their ability to laugh at silly yet clever humor... has lost something, in my opinion

reply

Sounds to me like YOU are the one who is intolerant of others' opinions.

reply

STOP FIGHTING over here!!! (((IMO))) Borat was waaaaay funnier than this...this movie felt like it was made for ignorants or kids...I watched this not to learn anything or gain any insights about any culture but this movie was too immature... i couldnt watch more than 20 minutes!!! btw am 29 years(30 in dec)

reply

Yeah, but do you really need to be a scholar on contemporary history to get the jokes? Isn't it pretty intuitive (unless you're a moron, which you OBVSLY are)? Dictators are MEN. Men are ALWAYS devoid of empathy and view women as objects. In a Republic or Democracy, these natural inclinations are suppressed, so we don't deal with them in the Western world. But when you remove these legal barriers, we get to view men in their natural state, which is vastly divergent from what we see in our liberalized and feminized western society.

Anyway, the juxtaposition, or whatever, is supposed to be funny. You didn't get the joke because you are a raging *beep* moron. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just tired of being tactful and nice. You are genetically inferior and your opinions should be completely disregarded.

reply

My mom who's nearly 50 really enjoyed it sooo yeah lol it really depends on whether you appreciate sacha baron's brand of comedy or not.

reply

Borat and Bruno are same movies in one you have an eastern european making political/cultural/sexual jokes, in other movie you have gay austrian making political/cultural/sexual jokes. All put into a nice documentary like movie.

Dictator is not a documentary but follows same formula with an Arab and still doing most of the same jokes and ends up falling onto its face.

The good part of the movie is the end where he compares democracy to dictatorship, makes a pact with America, America helps him to win first free elections and he still orders to have America killed (America turns out to be a jew which is not good (spoiler)).

reply

I like how Austria is an Eastern European country. Fuarkin LOL.

Drawn Together taught me all I need to know about life

reply

I'm 39, I liked it, nothing great-the stuff with Anna Faris was funny-I've seen his movies in the past, so I kind of knew what to expect.

reply

Yeah, over 30 here and liked it. I think it's good satire on what dictators are like, I found most of the jokes to be fitting for someone like Aladeen. Is it like Bruno and Borat? not really, but you can still find Cohen's brand of humor in it, which is PC incorrect/raunchy humor. Personally, I didn't care for Borat that much and Bruno had a few funny scenes in it, like the Psychic scene, the Ron Paul scene and the cage fight scene, the rest of the film is just stupid. I doubt I would've even gone to see TD if it wasn't for a friend of mine that's a big Cohen fan that wanted to go see it.

Everyone in the theater was cracking up at this movie. I suppose we were all in the mood to laugh because some of the jokes are kinda cliche and might not be that funny the second time around. However, I'm definitely going to buy the DVD though. The deleted scenes and the commentary should be great!

I'll have to watch it a 2nd time to make a final judgement but so far I would give it 2 thumbs up.

reply

"Did anyone that has seen this that was over 30 years old like this movie?"
Yes. I liked it more than Borat or Bruno.

reply

I am 34, and found the film very funny in parts.

What an absurd statement. What makes something which is funny to someone under some arbitrary age, in this case 30, somehow doesn't count as being legitimately funny? It's valid to ask if anyone old liked this movie, but to insinuate that a young person's sense of humour is in some way fundamentally invalid because it's not your cup of tea is ridiculous. Humour is completely subjective and just because you don't find something funny doesn't mean it isn't.

I'm 34 and I thought this movie was funny, though not as good as his previous films, but I attribute that more to the scripted nature of the movie. I allowed myself to laugh at often obvious or unecessarily crude jokes not because they were high comedy, but just because they were funny. Maybe I should just go read the New Yorker and gaffa at the humourous jokes in it's pages instead. I'd surely feel better about myself.

I feel bad for you if you feel that growing up means that you're not able to find funny things funny.
