Some Perspective...

Don't know how many of you saw The Tempest back in 2011. This movie had Helen Mirren and Djimon Hounsou. Basically the critics hated that too. I guess it just goes to show that even seasoned actors have difficulty with Shakespeare.

I didn't see that. But I've seen most adaptations and they usually got trashed by the critics. I loved "O", the Othello modern retelling, but it also had bad critics.
My guess is some of Shakepeare's works just translate better to the screen than others.
In the case of this new R&J, its just not very good.

I liked O too, but maybe I was a part of the targeted demographic. As for The Tempest, I loved it when I read it in college, but was not impressed with the 2011 adaptation. In fact, I didn't even bother finishing it because I just could not get into it. And much like this version of R&J, I liked the actors, but not in this particular movie.
