Who could play a better Juliet?

In my honest opinion Hailee Steinfeld was a plain Juliet, her portrayal was more something like a little sister and not of a lover, she looked kinder awkward and her facial expressions looked emotionless, I don't think Lily Collins could have done a better job with the role even though she was the first choice to play Juliet by the producers, "Holliday Grainger" would have suited the role much better, her profile suits that of Juliet as that is what attracted Romeo in the first place,she would have complemented Douglas Booth both in looks and acting and not reminded you of Romeos little sister.

So true, Holly is beautiful. She barely needs makeup. Hailee is an amazing actress but the role of Juliet did not suit her at all. She just didn't mesh well with Booth. When she said her lines, they were too fast and her emotions were bland as you said. I feel like she was a big reason as to why he film bombed.Also someone that could of played Juliet was Emily Browning. She's talented, incredibly gorgeous, and can pass for a young teenager. She has this renaissance look about her. I can't put my finger on it.

I totally agree with your comment about Emily Browning. In the same vein, I would choose Jessica Brown Findlay. Both of these ladies' acting is superb. However I've seen more of the latter, so this is why she is my choice. Another one would be Emilia Clarke, again for the acting ability, and perhaps if they were going for a different sort of Juliet to the wispy Renaissance look that I agree Browning, and Findlay have.
The acting is where I felt Hailee lacked emotion and pacing. It was sort of mumbled, at about 30 minutes in, the complete balcony scene made me groan out loud. I couldn't go on much further.
The chemistry was lacking too. I wish they had kept some innocence about all the kissing, it seemed heavy, put-upon.
Such a shame :(

Holliday Grainger would have been excellent I agree. I also think Emma Watson would have been great.

It either should be either Hailie Mathers (Eminem's daughter) or Shailene Woodley! They would have been better choices!!! Hailie would have been the right age for Juliet!

I have to disagree with you - Hailee is supremely good looking and is eminently suited to playing Juliet. I don't know why people think a blonde would make a good Juliet.

I agree. She was nowhere near pretty enough for a role that's all about being beautiful and they were a poor match.

I reckon Lily James from Cinderella would have been better as Juliet, to be honest... I think she would have been perfect!

I completely agree, and I don't think I've ever heard/seen worse line delivery in any film I've ever watched - It was as if Hailee had just been put there to mumble and look pretty. I love Lily Collins but she's too modern looking for Juliet - someone like Emily Browning would have been beautiful, or Clemence Poesy. Juliet needed to be more passionate and young, like Claire Danes' interpretation or the naive and slightly contrary version in Zeffirelli's film (can't remember her name) from the 70s. Holliday Grainger is beautiful but I disliked her performance in Great Expectations, so I'd worry she wouldn't do an iconic character such as Juliet any justice. I feel this film would have been so much better with another female lead - Douglas Booth was fine, Steinfield was a real let down and didn't suit it.
