My video of the Q+A after 'Homework' + capsule review

On Tuesday, January 25, 2011 I was fortunate to attend the gala World Premiere of Homework at the Sundance Film Festival. The sold-out screening was held in the 1270-seat Eccles Theatre in Park City, Utah. The film was a selection in the U.S. Dramatic Competition.

Writer/director Gavin Wiesen was joined onstage by his filmmaking team for a Q&A after the screening. While the cast was not present, Wiesen went out of his way to praise the actors several times.

The article also includes a capsule review and some of my thoughts about the film.

Thanks! Unfortunately none of the cast showed up at the screening I went to.

There were 5 screenings in total. Because of a conflict I wasn't able to make it to the very first one but I did make it to the 2nd screening. Granted, when actors come to a festival and appear at the first screening it is not uncommon for them to leave as the festival progresses and later screenings take place. however, this was only the 2nd one, not the 3rd, 4th, or 5th.

I am reluctant to criticize since I don't know why they didn't appear. Based on past experience it's probably because they were doing press that day -- interviews, photoshoots, etc. Still, of the hundreds of screenings I attend at festivals all year it was one of the very few times that there were no cast members for the Q&A at a 2nd screening. Generally, if that happens at all, it's with foreign films for which nobody comes over at all or they have to fly back right away. Sometimes there may be one star and they have to go back to another film shoot. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed, especially since I'd been writing about the film for a long time.
