Too Much Fiction...

The true story of the Hindenburg is exciting all on it's own. I understand wanting to use fictional characters to fill it out, but to distort actual historical facts is inane.

About 10 minutes in at the big dinner party they are talking about the Hindenburg about to embark on it's first trip to America.

This isn't the Titanic...this wasn't it's maiden voyage...it wasn't even it's first trip or season making transatlantic runs to America.

In the investigations as to the cause of the crash afterward one of the possible causes was that the ground crew had grown complacent with the flights being so routine.

Twenty minutes in & I'm done with this mess.

That is one nutty hospital.

I did not see the entire thing, but if the mother and the two children were supposed to be based on the mother and two children from the original movie, then both children survived, not just one. In the original movie I think both children jumped from the ship at the same time, while the mother had already been forced out.

You may be thinking of the Doehnerr family (named the "Breslau" family in the 1975 film), in which there were three children, a teenage girl and two school-age boys. The boys and their mother survived; the father and daughter perished, he at the wreck site, she in the hospital.

I didn't make it much further than 20 minutes myself, but the dinner party was to celebrate the first flight to the U.S. of 1937, not the first ever.

A very well executed film in recreating the Hindenbrug and the period detail, with high production values. But the film was way too long. Was it originally a two or three parter?? The fictious love stroy was tiresome and not needed, the production was clearly trying to make it like "Titanic" which was stupid and cheesy and the biggest flaw.

As others have commented - a "disaster film" remake of the crash. Average but watchable for the "disaster" footage as per the "Airport" series from the 1970s.

As to length, this release seems to be the "theatrical" release of the mini-series hence the length of the film. No doubt if it had been made as a film and not a television mini-series it would have been cut and structed better.

See :

which seems to be the same (in title anyway).
