Strange Person to Celebrate

Celebrating the man and the company that made its billions off of Chinese slave labor.

Found the princess warrior

reply

Found the soulless bitch.

reply

Ouch, that stung. 🙄

reply

You'd last, at the most, 10 seconds as a Chinese slave laborer. Once you couldn't get your daily pedicure, you'd be done.

reply

Thank goodness I'm white and privileged.

reply

White and useless is more like it.

reply

I'm not useless, I'm white. I actually contribute to society

reply

😂

reply

Hey you found a sense of humor I see.

reply

I can always laugh at you.

reply

Well yes, I am funny

The fact that a movie could get made and lauded about the creation and marketing of a corporate product based on an athlete that we now know to be a horrible person is an indication of what a consumerist, programmed society we live in.

reply

“We” now know him to be a horrible person?

I am part of the “we” you somehow feel authorized to speak for, yet I know no such thing.

Jordan isn't known for being the most caring and loving guy. It's because his 6-0 mark in the NBA finals is mythologized and turns him into some hero who can do no wrong.
Jordan played for 15 seasons and made the finals 6 times. That's 9 seasons that ended where he was a loser.
Why couldn't he make the finals the other 9 years?
What if he made 8 finals and lost 2 and went 6-2?
Is it better to make 8 finals but still have 6 rings or just go 6-0? Magic Johnson made the finals 9 times and went 5-4. What if Magic was just 5-0? Would that be better than 5-4?

I think about John Harbaugh and Mike Tomlin in the NFL. Both have 1 ring but Harbaugh is 1-0 in the Super Bowl and Tomlin is 1-1 in the Super Bowl (lost to Green Bay). I personally think getting to the Super Bowl twice is better than once. But the discussion is interesting.
Both of them are almost the same coach:
John Harbaugh: 147-95....11-9 in playoffs...1 ring in 1 Super Bowl
Mike Tomlin: 163-93-2....8-9 in playoffs....1 ring in 2 Super Bowls
But I think Tomlin wins.

Funny they mention the Bills making 4 straight Super Bowls. Their coach Marv Levy is in the hall of fame just because they made 4 in a row.
Also the coach of the 70's Vikings...Bud Grant...made the Super Bowl 4 times with the Vikings and lost all 4 ('69, '73, '74, '76) and he's in the Hall of fame as well.

So you got 2 coaches there who are a combined 0-8 in the Super Bowl but are in the Hall of Fame anyway. There is something to be said for being the conference winner 4 times.

In the 4 AFC Championship games, the Bills beat:
the Raiders in '90,
John Elway's Broncos in '91,
Dan Marino's Dolphins in '92,
Joe Montana's Chiefs in '93.

Here's their coaching records:

Bud Grant: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/GranBu0.htm
Marv Levy: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/LevyMa0.htm
Both have similar records.

So far the only argument put forth here that Jordan is a "horrible person" is that he only made the finals six times. Oh, the humanity! What a monster!

reply

It seems like it.

reply

FACT: Michael Jordan is above reproach. Prove me wrong.

reply

Horrible person? Lol. I just watched The Last Dance and I admire him. You woke privileged entitled Americans like to tear down what makes you great. In the end when you've gotten your wish and everyone hates you, you'll regret that.

reply

Yeah, very few people ever heard of Sonny Vaccaro.

But it's an underdog story, about the distant 3rd place shoe company betting on the third pick in the draft.
And a guy who recognized greatness betting his career on being right.
And giving a piece of the pie to the actual athlete for the first time, instead of cashing in on his fame.

Sports Celebdom is a huge marketing enterprise and Jordan played a huge role in its evolution to what it has morphed into today with Social Media, the NIL in college, and Global expansion.

I personally find NOTHING interesting about Jordan, but even other public figures like Obama and Trump referenced his name.

reply

Because he's black? Why do you hate black people?

reply

And who bought the shoes? There is enough blame to go around. (By the way did you catch the history on Adidas... yikes, even worse)

reply

What's wrong with the history of ADIDAS?
The whole "Hitler Youth" thing that everyone who knows very little about history always spouts?
