Terraferma vs Le Havre

Before I begin, I watched these films on two consecutive nights and thought I'd compare them since they both deal with illegal immigration/ human kindness.

Firstly, I really liked Terraferma.
It dealt with it's themes very well: said a great deal illegal immigration, it delved into the hardships, and whether or not one should help the needy regardless of the law and the trouble it can bring. The acting was good and there were a few scenes that were simply breathtaking. I also felt it's run time was appropriate but maybe that's just me!
It's an in-depth and thought provoking film with a lot to say about human kindness, gripping from start to finish. I also enjoyed the old vs modern values but for sake of the comparison, I'll leave it.

Now I've just watched Finland's Best Foreign Language nomination and I'm seeing it called a feel-good film but it just didn't grab me whatsoever.
I found it really uninteresting, and the awful acting didn't help things either particularly with the film's humour which fell flat. I can't complain about the cinematography because that was pretty tight but the rest just didn't do anything for me.
I don't like being harsh to a film I didn't enjoy but even though it does have a big heart and wants to send out a positive message, I genuinely think it is quite a poor film.

It wasn't just the themes though, it was also the amount of tension and drama. Terraferma excelled, Le Havre lacked.

They may have different main plots but regarding immigration/human kindess, Terraferma went a lot further and handled it a lot better... the acting was also good and the characters interesting, unlike Le Havre, so between these two it would be Terraferma every time.

Not posting this simply to trash Le Havre, just a recommendation of which of these two similar films I prefer!

I couldn't agree more: with the exception of the cinematography, Terraferma is superior in every single department. I also found Le Havre's ending almost offensive.
