Question about the ending and Kevin (spoliers)

what happened to him? after the gang rejected him? they dont show this

and when dre was in jail, he said his cousin died? who was the cousin?

reply

Kevin and Dre were cousins. They were both locked up and Kevin was killed in the yard (inside jail)

This was told at the end of the movie when Carley went to the jail to talk to Dre.

reply

wonder why they didnt show any of that :/

reply

Because they wasted precious time in useless scenes... That's why the movie gives you a feel of inconclusiveness.

reply

Exactly! Such jumbled garbage for a mediocre film.

I have no idea why they didn't show us Kevin's fate, considering that everything that happened was primarily all his fault. Not having the catharsis of seeing him pay for his stupidity with his life (because he clearly has no respect for anyone else's life) was pretty crappy.

Kevin and Dre are cousins. When Carly went to visit Dre in jail they spoke of Kevin's fate. He was killed in the yard, presumably by other inmates.

There was also a scene in which Kevin went back to the gang outside of a convenience store to tell them what happened. They still rejected him.

Both answers to these questions were in the movie.

We know what happened to him (killed by inmates in the yard) but the point is we didn't get to see it happen. It's a strange call to not let the viewing audience get to see the villain get his comeuppance, unless the director was going for something deeper. Either way, meh.

The movie was more about how in the course of 96 Minutes (The time from Carly leaving the bar to arriving at the ER, as stated by the officer in the ER) their lives were changed dramatically. It seemed to focus more on Dre and Carly. Him working his whole life to be better than the streets around him and losing it all to protect his cousin, and her being able to look past that by not wanting to see him spend the rest of his life in prison. Her asking what HE wanted her to say in the letter to the parole board and her telling him "I pray to god you don't get lost again". Kevin being killed in prison was more of a side note, as Dre stated "He got what what was coming to him". Hope this helps...

Pain is merely the weakness leaving the body!

Carly had less focus in her life and it could be argued that the events helped her in some way, but the character was not mined enough to make anything substantial out of it.

It's a lowbudget film, that scene was probably not filmed just because it would cost too much to set up they'd not only need the location but they'd need like 100 extras as inmates and guards etc.

I love when a thread says spoliers instead of spoilers. Seems there's at least one on every movie's board.

The cousin was Kevin, that was mentioned a couple times in the film.

That was the only reason Evan Ross' character was looking out for him as much as he did, because he was family (on his white side).

He mentions that he "got what was coming for him" at the yard (by other inmates) he probably played all tough there too and that got him got, maybe even bragging about the whole ordeal thinking it would make him the big kahuna there.
