There was so much potential in the character but throughout the series they seemed to give him the short end. He couldn't even be fully accepting of his leadership without conceding that someone else (Robin/Nightwing) would be better for the role. I wonder why they seemed to try so hard to make Kaldur the least appealing character of the team.

Regardless of how they felt about him, he was still popular enough with the fans to where DC made him a canon character in the comics.

The comic version of Kaldur and the Young Justice version are sort of different, and that was before The NEW52 edited him back out of continuity.

I think the reason he mentions Robin/Nightwing is simply just a nod to the fact that Robin usually is the leader of any DC new generation team
