Anything like Terra Nova out there?

I liked Terra Nova. Did I like everything about the show... no. But it was a family oriented sci fi show with some cool cgi creatures that I could turn my brain off with. Too much TV is just boring doctor/lawyer/crime drama that takes zero risks.

I liked the chemistry between the two main actors. I also love anything with a premise of time travel or multiple dimensions.

So is there anything else like this show - currently airing or old? I've watched Defiance which I enjoyed. There's a couple old shows with dinosaurs but I'm not sure if they're good.

If you haven't seen them already Doctor Who (2005), Sliders (1995) and everyone's favourite classic Quantum Leap (1989) could be just what you're looking for.

In the sci-fi family drama subgenre, you have shows like Caprica, which is much better than it's made out to be, and Falling Skies, which can be dodgy but overall is a solid show.
I'd recommend Firefly as well, all nine main cast members have unbelievable chemistry between each other.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is also good, it has time travel, family drama and chemistry.
Hope this helped.

First 3 seasons of Stargate SG-1. Best mainstream SCi FI show of our generation.
They travel to other planets which are correlates of ancient Earth cultures.
Very well-written, funny, humanistic tone, good team-work, likable characters and generally family-friendly.

Would also suggest BBC Walking with Dinosaurs. Graphics on-par with Jurassic Park 1.

Sliders, team of travelers go through an inter-dimensional portal. Often set in different historical periods or alternative timelines. A handful of planets featured a T-Rex (with better graphics than Terra Nova)

Sanctuary, featuring Amanda Tapping from Stargate. Lots of CGI beasties and possibly the best written of the current sci fi shows. Highly under-rated.

PrimeEval, a show where a portal brings dinosaurs and other creatures from the past. Not as well-written as the others but fairly feel-good and inoffensive. Or the much darker Torchwood.

Hercules or Xena. Fun 90's action-adventure shows set in Ancient Greece.

Fringe, because its the best recent Sci Fi show. Continuum and Revolution are the best of the current bunch.

Sure there are a lot of terrible shows on TV (and films for that matter).

Look up writers/producers like Michael bay and branon braga and take your pick.

Nothing better to do, pal?

The best would be UK PrimEval. Especially, the later seasons.
