Proper name of the author

The author's name here is reported as being KAHLIL GIBRAN. Actually, the proper name in Arabic is KHALIL GIBRAN, pronounced the same way as CHAIM or CHUTZPAH. The sound of KH is guttural and does not exist in English, therefore English-speaking people pronounce it as KALIL.

Thought I should bring that to the attention of perfectionists.

Was the late author from the Middle East or India?

The Middle East, specifically Lebanon when it was part of the Ottoman Empire.
