This or Restrepo?

Anyone seen both? Which do you prefer and why?

My vote would be for "Armadillo". I could relate to the Danes a lot more than to the Americans but maybe that's a geographical issue. Both truly excellent documentaries.

I agree with you. Armadillo was better.

It's far better to grasp the universe as it really is than to persist in delusion

i wouldn't try to capture those guys. they would likely blow themselves and you up with a grenade when you try to grab them.

reply

My vote would go to Armadillo because I found it a lot more interesting, both in its style and content.

They are both really great but MY favorite war documentary is Hell and Back Again. I understand the emotional values of both Armadillo and Restrepo, but I find that Hell and Back Again not only matches them both in emotional power but also shows you how life looks from the soldier POV. For me personally, I found this documentary to be easy to relate to and overall a powerful story. Check out the trailer and if you like it, it’s on Netflix. You will not regret it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Hzz4iTwSsI

i agree, i actually like Hell and Back Again more than these two films. Cinematically Hell and Back Again is more watchable. Hard to find this content "enjoyable" but the cinematography is fantastic, won at sundance, and its a very intriguing story that leave an unbiased view for you to decide whats right and wrong.

All I could think while watching Restrepo was how incompetent and disingenuous American officers sound. Compare the "pep talk" the US Army Captain gave his men after hearing about dead comrades in another unit to the ceremony the Danish CO had when the same thing occurred.
