'I don't believe in God'

Why is this considered baggage? That's ridiculous.

It depends on who is listening. Perhaps the one you're 'wooing' is a Christian. This could be a big piece of baggage to them.

I agree though, I don't see how that would be baggage to any rational person either. ;)

I sometimes think they have dumb baggage. One I remember was a girl said she had
man hands and shrimp toes. As funny as it is I felt it was stupid and made up.

"I'd like a side of crazy please"

reply

No doubt. I consider that a huge plus.

There was a woman who said she believes the bible is a hoax. Then there was the guy (I think this was the same show) who kept talking about how certain baggage (believing the bible is a hoax) conflicts with his Christian values. Then his baggage turned out to be that he's evaded the police multiple times when they've tried to pull him over for speeding and other things.

I would prefer dating a guy who isn't religious or agnostic/atheist anyway. That would be plus for me. I'm agnostic myself.

reply

Seems crazy to us, I know, but in the same way, someone being a Christian would be huge baggage for me also

This is a GREAT topic to bring up One thing that always troubles me in the back of my mind for dating women down the road is religion. I think Neil DeGrass Tyson's views on religion are the closest to my beliefs; the only "ist" I am is a scientist. I believe in the laws of nature and science. If I could I wouldn't be part of any religion. If you had to classify me as something the closest thing would be "agnostic". But honestly, I would rather be considered NOTHING if possible. I don't lean either way in belief or disbelief.

Do I "hate" religion? No, I love the history of the pope and I find the whole concepts of religion of interesting. If I whole heartedly believed in a god and/or religion and the bible I would say I do, but that's just not the way my brain works. I just find it too extreme. To tell me there's some invisible force that controls the fate of everything is just ridiculous.

Like many great scientist in the world say, radical ideas require radical evidence. The bible for me is not evidence. The churches, stories, non-physical concepts of it all just seem flat out silly. Just because lightning struck the church when the pope recently resigned doesn't mean god did it in my eyes; it means there was a thunderstorm produced by nature. That's just the way my mind works, I'm a logical person.

Yeah, that would be really weird to try to go with a guy who claims not to believe because what would he end up with? no morals? no hope? no compassion?

There was the worst possible guy on the show that I can imagine because he professed to deprogram children from Bible study to nothingness. When you think of all of those saints and missionaries who were martyred trying to save people, and then evil trash like that tries to take it all away from those poor kids, then nothing can be worse except maybe to get stuck with a loud mouth corpulant skag woman covered with tattoos. Jerry had some of those on, too.

Okay, I can see if a guy doesn't like to be criticized all day Sunday by perfect church goers, because he doesn't dress well or brush his teeth enough, or whatever, because who would want to go with a slob in the first place, right? But for him to say that he does not believe would be way too much baggage for me to deal with, and he'd just have to be the first one voted out big time.

Mellow Salutations!

It would be a big deal for me and many others that are believers. So yes, it IS considered baggage for many people. If I hear someone is an atheist, or an agnostic to a lesser extent, I consider them undatable, for me.

As long as their god doesn't tell them to fly planes into skyscrapers!

reply

True. In my case I prefer a Christian although I did have a long relationship with a Jew.

in New Zealand, 'I'm a christian' would be the baggage, because the majority of people under 40 are not christian.

I really hope this is a trolling thread. Even if you don't personally believe in God, if you can't see why that would be an issue for those who do you're a lot more ignorant that you probably think those who believe are. For those whose faith is an important part of their lives, they're probably going to want someone they can share that with. Not just someone who "respects" it but doesn't share it.

If you don't want to be spoiled, you shouldn't be here in the first place.
