I HATED the editing in this movie...

Oh my God, I was so frustrated with this film when it came to the editing. As a technique, good job to the editor and that must have been quite a bit of rendering for the guy once he was putting in all of the discoloration, static, and film breaking.

However, it was just really annoying and frustrating to watch. First off, the film was shot with a DSLR camera, which captures video and stores it on a memory card, not a tape. The last 45 minutes of this film has film breaks, film waves, static lines, all the such that you would see if you were watching a VHS tape that was horribly treated throughout the years. Then you have points where the video just freezes, zooms in randomly, desaturates or saturates...pretty much any kind of effect you can get on Final Cut Pro under the "Bad TV" effect. I get what they were trying to do there, making it seem like some kind of footage found from somewhere, but when they were using a Canon camera or whatever kind of camera it was, that doesn't use a tape, it doesn't work that way when it comes to distorted video as if someone stumbled upon a crummy VHS tape in the city dump.

I'd believe that that is what I would see if I were watching this and the footage was shot back in the 1990s, but since this takes place last year, I guess, either you wouldn't see many glitches in the footage, or that camera would have been smashed way before those chicks got inside the military base.

I agree, but only to an extent. 3CCD cameras like the VX1000 and GL2 also suffer from film glitches... certainly not as bad as the ones we see here, but they ARE apparent. I'm aware that those are MiniDV cameras, but they never explain what kind of rig they are using in the film... and to be honest, I was really surprised to find out that the whole thing was shot with a Canon 7D. I assumed they were using an HD camera that records to hard drive. If that were the case, you would certainly run into some weird glitches like that along the way, especially considering the beating the cam takes in this flick!

Also, if you notice the camera never really starts freaking out unless the "aliens" or whatever are nearby. I just assumed it was an electronic malfunction due to their presence!

I agree! It was too much static and *beep* It doesn't really work that way on a digital camera.

And even though I love surroundsound the Canon D7 can not record 5.1 surround sound.

And I really HATE it when we can see the "no battery" icon on screen. THAT IS NEVER BEING RECORDED ON THE FILM!!! When will they ever learn?!
