Does anyone else feel...

Does anyone else feel like this is unintentionally (especially after seeing the full trailer) the story of two arrogant jerks who never got over their high school rivalry and are using the holiday season as their personal battle field against each other?

If you see McGinnley's character's being proud over his past victories over Baldwin's character, snatching his daughter away from his rival and even another character points out that maybe this defense of his idea of Christmas is more about himself than the holiday season, it helped fuel this theory. Then there's also Baldwin's attitude, but neither character comes off as likable.

Then again I've always felt like the "War on Christmas" is nothing more than a pissing contest that has only helped make the holiday season miserable and that the starters of it are cashing off on it.

As an Englishman with no particular hang ups about religion I find it hugely irratating that Americans, a basically christian nation, call Christmas a holiday and wish people happy holiday . I worked in the UK for Amex and found this denial of your heritage pathetic . It isn't a holiday , it never was a holiday , it's a celebration of a person's faith and the birth of Christ.

I find the American political correctness extreme . There is a difference between tolerance and abject denial of your birthright

As an Englishman you should know that holiday comes from Holy Day, and thus Christmas was always a Holy Day, and if you really knew your own heritage, you'd know that the Winter Solstice has been celebrated in England for a lot longer than Christianity has been there.

What a pathetic argument about why you say holiday . If you yanks had any history prior to the Brits arriving you would know Christmas has never been referred to as a holiday , and I bet it wasn't in America either . Bing Crosby sang about a White Christmas not a white holiday . Where the source of the using Dec as a festival is from is also irrelevant , we all know Jesus wasn't born in December .

It is purely symbolic , as post the winter solstice is the beginning of the rebirth of fauna and flora .

That's funny, we don't use holiday like that anymore so your argument is invalid. If we did than columbus day, presidents day, and independence day wouldn't be holidays. Also, it wasn't considered very christian to celebrate christmas until the late 1800s early 1900s. So yeah, do some research friend. :)

I thought the "War on Christmas" was invented by conservative commentators to get people riled up over nothing. Why should anyone care if you say happy holidays? How is it offensive to christians that non-christians don't actually celebrate the birth of christ at winter solstice? And who gives a *beep* if a town puts up a manger or "merry christmas" signs if the majority of it's inhabitants are christian? The whole discussion is *beep* retarded.

It felt to me that Christmas itself was more of a weapon for them to use against each other due tot heir own petty rivalry.
