Christians Must Facepalm At This...

As a Dawkins & Hitchens loving militant-atheist, this movie was a sheer joy for me.

I always find that if you give the super-religious enough rope they hang themselves fairly quickly by saying stupid things, but in this case, they've been given movie cameras, a budget and told to shoot themselves in the foot so that the whole world can laugh at them.

Do any real people believe that atheists actually want to destroy Christmas? Is that what people think?

I love Christmas. I love everything about it. I even love watching kids act out the nativity. It's a part of my culture and heritage.

This movie was made by people who equate atheists with the Taliban.
The film makers must have been saying, "Sure, they wants to destroy paintings of God in the National Gallery just like the Taliban destroyed those Buddhas."
This simply isn't true and serves only to show how petty minded, stupid and disconnected from reality these super-religious folk are; and that's exactly what message this movie sends out. The heart of the film says, "Christians have no idea about the world and live in a bubble of their own stupidity!"

Quite the opposite of what they intended.

Perhaps one day they will try to learn about the world around them, read non-religious books, look through a telescope, a microscope, make an effort to understand what DNA actually does, learn scientific method and recognise doubt as a virtue.
If they do that, the rewards are magnificent, (But they'll also discover there is no invisible man in the sky... sorry.)

As a believer in Christ who is in the ministry,
I cringe at the thought of this film. I have friends who are athiests and agnostics so I don't believe that "they" are out to "get us." While I strongly believe that faith in Christ is the only way to heaven and the best way to live, I could never consider a non-believer an enemy. Even if the producers of this film do consider atheists the enemy, they should follow the words of Jesus and "love!" My goal is to simply extend the good news to everyone that Jesus loves them, died for them, and rose again so they can enjoy eternity (full life) with God Himself.

leeandfong,
I'm sorry if (better said: that) this movie or (and) misguided Christians let you down. If you have questions, message me!

You must not have seen the movie cause it is exactly about following the words of Jesus and loving, and not treating other people as enemies. I started watching it expecting a bigoted smug-fest based on the trailer but found it quite good-hearted. Here is a quote from a pastor in the movie that helps change the attitude of everyone towards the antagonist: "When God, the Father, sent his Son to redeem the earth it was a gift. Some people welcomed it with great joy, others spit upon it. Two thousand years later, nothing has changed. We give the gift with love, with humility, and with grace. The response to that gift is not our concern. How we respond to the people is God's concern.
And as to the title - Christmas with a capital C, it is explained as "Like Philippians 2. Jesus did not consider equality with God something that could be grasped. He made himself nothing. He in fact took on the very nature of a servant." So in the end, the main heroes help their neighbours and everybody gives a heart-warming party to the lonely, bankrupt Mitch (the atheist). Also, the nativity display is transferred to citizens and put on in some kind of a more secluded place, since Jesus does not really care about such things (it is said so in the movie). And the main hero Dan and his rival Mitch, are reunited after many years with the atheist withdrawing his anti-Christmas complaint and Dan getting Mitch a job in the local commerce chamber. Ugh... what an atrocious message :P.

Love you all. Christmas isn't a feast that Jezus celibrated.Really he didn't. Why don't we follow Jezus? If you want to celebrate his birth then pesach is probably the right date. Christmas is an invention of people just picking a wrong datedo . And a christmass tree has nothing to do with Jezus himself. Bless you all. Happy chanukah....
