The Ending

Wow - didnt see that coming.

At first I thought it was a great way to end the film.

Now though, a bit later, I can't help feel that it was incredibly selfish.

Selfish? That he didn't bring the body home but fulfilled his dying son's wish to swim once again?

I am not sure it was selfish - it probably seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

Not sure about the film though - honestly can't quite understand all the praise it's received.

Quite a potent ending with the audience being left wondering how the devastation of his son's death will affect Adam and others near to his son.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".

reply

For me, the potency was dramatically undercut by the obviousness of the actor breathing in the sidecar when he was supposed to be dead.

His son did the backfloat quite well. (Just kidding!)

The movie was about a B-. Not bad.

I thought the ending was perfect. Son and father begin their rivalry in water and the consequences of the rivalry end with them in water.

He kicked me right in the middle of my daily routine
