The Female Witness in the Yellow Dress * Possible Spoilers*

I can't quite see the point of including her scene. She states (incorrectly) she saw Federico on the phone after the accident (it was Mathius)further involving him legally, but then the police say her statement won't be admitted into evidence by the judge any way. So why include it? Are we to assume she went to the media?🐭
