Okay, I'm clueless

Just watched this docu, and I have to say, I am completely clueless about the sport of cycling.

I had only ever seen very little amounts of footage from the TdF before watching this. I had no idea they had teams, I thought it was just a sport of individual entrants like an every-man-for-himself type of thing. And I didn't know that the cyclist who was in the lead was given the yellow jersey, and they all competed hard to get it. Another thing I didn't realize was that the race went on for as long as it did.

Also amazed how they ride in such tight groups. Like, how the heck do they not all crash into each other? Yeah I know that sounds stupid, but I honestly had no idea.

Nothing to do with the film. Why bother posting.

Heaven forbid that a film would elicit curiosity about the subject and not the film!

The sport of pro cycling is quite fascinating actually.

There are a lot of aspects to it -the Grand tours, the one day classics. Even the unwritten rules and etiquette in the tour is very interesting. Not the mention the physical demands the cyclist endure, drugs or no drugs.

There are some great books about the history of pro cycling that a newcomer to the sport would find interesting.

Ignore the jerk, OP.

I knew many of these things, but - as with some forms of auto racing - don't grasp the idea of "team" competition. The whole "servant" thing, with teammates blocking one another from the wind, for example, was new to me.
