Two questions

I'm not familiar with the sport, so am curious - early in the film Armstrong is shown being forced/knocked off the course, after which he rides - cuts? - across a grassy area as his competitors circle it on the road. The announcer shrieks about how talented he is, while I'm thinking, "But he took a short cut!" This is permissible? Dumb question, probably - *if* you know the sport.

From Wikipedia:

"In September 2013, he was asked by UCI's new president, Brian Cookson, to testify completely about his doping. Armstrong refused to testify until and unless he got a complete amnesty, which Cookson said is most unlikely to happen."

Amnesty in regard to what? Some lawsuit? Does he have monetary penalties pending?

Thanks for any edification.

I wondered about it too, but you can also see he had to briefly dismount then start pedalling again, and many cyclists managed to overtake him in that time. It was likely slower travelling over than unpaved ground too, so while it was a shorter distance, it didn't work to his advantage.
