This could be about anything, it's interesting because...

" The Armstrong Lie" is just a fascinating study of the fallacies of humans and a very in-depth look at deception, peer pressure, and media hype. The fact that its a heavily reported story that we already know the ending to, or that its about a niche sport that doesn't interest everyone isn't the point.

"the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing"

I don't think we know the ending at all. In the very last bit with Armstrong talking (I think he'd moved out of his mansion by that point), he still thinks he won. He still think that people, in the future, will look back at those seven blank spots and think, "in the context", that yes, he won.

That to me tells me he's still playing the game. He can't let go. It's in his nature.

______________
(My jaw dropped when he said this. The hubris of this guy!)

Are you saying that, when all is said and done, he may be remembered as the great champion he believes himself to be?

Also, is he not facing lawsuits? Aren't there people out there who want their prize money, money from endorsement deals, etc., back, and who have a strong legal basis on which to stand? Armstrong says himself at one point, pre-admission, that "it would all be gone," or words to that effect, if he were caught doping.

There will always be some people to whom he is still a hero but to many, many people involved in the sport he is not the great champion that he believes himself to be - to many he never was.
