Gaby/Solo or Gaby/Illya

Which pairing romantically would you prefer, they was chemistry with both but Illya was better for her

reply

You're missing the more logical pairing, and the one that was the clearest, if you were paying attention: Illya/Solo. It was an obvious nod to all the slash fiction that women have been writing ever since the TV show, depicting the two men as lovers.

I was a bit startled at some of the blatantly homo-erotic banter between the two guys -- much of which seemed to sail right over the heads of most of the oblivious audience. It was very sly, but also very obvious.

They started out as "rivals", but gradually grew to like and respect each other more and more. Both of them always appeared at just the right moment, to rescue his "buddy", save his life, and take care of him. They were getting more and more snuggly, as the movie went on, cuddling up together on that little Vespa, and so on. Did you see Illya's face when Solo returned his father's precious watch, which he had been so upset at losing? How do you think he thanked him and showed his gratitude?

Another clue was the final scene, where the two guys are enjoying the afterglow and a cosy drink together, out on the balcony. Gaby arrives, but both guys are so focused on each other that neither one even looks at her. How much clearer did it have to be?

I have to snicker when people keep somehow imagining that Illya was "in love" with Gaby. No, he wasn't! They were simply POSING as an engaged couple. The rest of the time, he ignored her -- but people only seem to see what they EXPECT to see, it seems!

Gaby was rude and snippy to him constantly, smacking him around for no reason. SHE kept making moves on him, trying to get him to kiss her -- but he never would. He kept jumping at the first excuse that came along to move quickly away from her. He was clearly rejecting her without wanting to hurt her feelings. (Although why he would even care about her feelings when she was always such a bitch to him, I can't imagine.)

Bottom line: He would never kiss her, even though she clearly wanted him to, and kept giving him opportunities. It's time to understand why that might be. And the reason is "Solo".

And for those who still didn't get it, Armie was on Conan O'Brien's show and he said of the two men that "We're in love." I rest my case.

Richie said any gay subtext is only in the mind of those who see it.
Clearly then, Ritchie was not being honest. If he didn't realize how many suggestive lines and subtexts he was putting into the movie, then he must be very naive. How did they get there if he didn't put them there?

Why would Armie Hammer tell Conan O'Brien that the two men are "in love"? If Ritchie really didn't mean it to come across that way, maybe he should have explained it to Armie -- who knew exactly what was going on.

American audiences are notoriously dense, though, with anything subtle flying right over their heads. They need to have everything spelled out for them in great big letters, or they just won't get it.

Ritchie was married to Madonna at a time when she had a large number of gay fans. He would have known better than that. I think it's far more likely that, when he said that to the interviewer, he was just feigning innocence and being coy. I don't believe it for a second.

I had the SAME argument with "it". NOTHING, I mean NOTHING will stop her from her obsessive opinion regarding this issue. Even when it comes OUT OF THE DIRECTOR'S MOUTH she will not be daunted. She does it on every board, Sadly, she is "a few cards short of a full deck". Good luck but she will always, always, always have the last word,,,no matter how misguided,

I tried the SAME argument/evidence/logic...it bounced off like spitballs off a battleship. Like I said, she doesn't have both oars in the water....buckle your seat belts..

I just got tired of it. It is a terrific film featuring a typical bromance but she insists on mischaracterizing the relationship despite the words of the director.....cue the Twilight Zone music.

So you're just going to close your eyes tightly and sidestep all the very clear evidence I just listed? You just prefer to believe whatever the director says, even though he's clearly either dishonest or extremely naive? Wow.

No "spin" was necessary, if you were open-minded enough to read all of what I said. If you saw the movie, there it all was.

But I sure hope you're never on a jury, if you refuse to be persuaded by clear and convincing proof.....

,,,so using your warped logic, if YOU were a member of a jury where the defendant(director) admitted his guilt, YOU with your scary clever intuition, would find a way to declare him innocent. It is as remarkable as it is sad...

reply

Why is it so hard for some of you people to admit the truth? You don't like reality. Fine, we get that. But getting all snippy and rude doesn't change reality at all. Not one little bit.

we're done here
No, we're not. You just mean your mind is permanently closed, and you have no plans to listen to any more evidence or proof. Just so we're clear.....

Gaby/Illya

Oh right, because when a woman is constantly rude and abusive to a man, even smacking him around for no reason, and he shows no interest in her, even refusing to kiss her even when she keeps trying to get him to do it, that means it's a match made in heaven. 

No wonder so many marriages end in divorce.

But of course, Solo showed even LESS interest in her, so I guess to some shallow thinkers, that would leave Illya. As if.

reply

Your crazy and it clearly shows in this thread, also quite obviously obsessed with them being gay even though it doesn't show in the film I just watched.

reply

even though it doesn't show in the film I just watched.
"It doesn't show"? You mean you managed to miss it. Are you blind? How many times do you need me to list all the clear and obvious indications before you'll start to get it?

Gaby was a snotty little bag that Illya refused to kiss, even though she kept wanting him to. (That's never a good sign for a woman who is hoping to get into a man's pants, at some point.) He ignored her whenever Solo was there. Hello.....

She was rude and kept smacking him around for no reason. What kind of man would find that attractive??

And of course, Armie Hammer himself says the two guys are "in love". Now what could that possibly mean?

reply

It doesn't matter how many times you point out your gay fantasies it will never make it so. You probably think that all guys who turn down a girl are gay, sorry but not every guy is a man whore. And on top of that some guys do get along so well that it looks like they have something but none of it is gay.

reply

Do you think it makes you look clever to refuse to accept clear and convincing evidence, simply because it's not what you want to believe? It doesn't at all.

And I sure hope you're never on a jury, if you're so resistant to being persuaded by clear and obvious proof.

I see this all the time, though. I list very plain and obvious facts and realities -- and instead of coming up with a thoughtful and intelligent rebuttal, people just say "Well I don't think so!", and call me crazy. That's not convincing at all.

reply

So I see that you're only intelligent enough to have one set of canned lines you try to use to push your homoerotic fantasies. You're one weird troll.

reply

How many sets of facts do you need? And I see that you're still not coming up with any convincing proof that I'm incorrect about any of it. The facts speak for themselves.

I know people like you will always just sidestep all the evidence -- but tell me, why do you think a syrupy Italian love song was playing all through Solo's rescue of Illya? They could have used tense or exciting music instead. Why do you think the love song was still playing as he held Illya in his arms, even though the truck would have been at the bottom of the harbour by then? Was it just a mistake or a coincidence? Hardly.

You probably didn't understand the lyrics of the song -- but I do, and they're about sadly missing someone he has LOST. It started playing right about the time Solo realized that Illya was in serious trouble, and just might die. He realized he had really grown to care deeply about this man who had once been his enemy and rival.

And why do you think Armie Hammer himself told Conan O'Brien on his show that the two men are "in love"?

Now what could that possibly mean..... 

reply

You would first need to understand what a fact is to be correct and for me to even care about analyzing the whole film just to destroy you, it's pointless since people like you don't give up and just like to be right no matter how wrong you are.

reply

I take that as an admission that you can't prove that you are not wrong, much less "destroy me"  -- and that you have no rebuttal whatsoever for all the evidence I've provided that shows that I am right. Looks like I win.

reply

You must be one of those trump insiders, you and he like your alternative facts.

reply

I see. So you have no evidence whatsoever to counter all the PROOF I've provided, so you think it will mean you win if you just call them "alternative facts"? Sorry, but no.

And implying I have anything in common with that ridiculous, pompous, orange-faced cartoon character, who is ignorant, bigoted, and sexist, and has had zero political training or experience is just rude. The American nightmare is just beginning.

What exactly is one suppose to "win"?
I have seen your list of evidence on this subject for months You are entitled to your opinion.
I believe they are in love too..... as two great friends and comrades. My eyes were open while watching this movie. I just have a different view.

You do have a few things in common.... Your egos are huge. You both just can't let go of the simplest things. You must be right!
