Her speech at his wedding

This is, in my opinion, the best scene in the movie. I thought Lily Collins was great in this movie and this scene in particular.

Her speech was simple and eloquent, and I could sense the years of unexpressed feelings behind her words. She summed up what she felt about him for probably her entire life. That took a ton of courage to bare her soul to him, and during her wedding toast no less.

I think most can relate to having that one person in your life that you just couldn't quite work things out with, but you knew was somebody special. What she said about life being grey if you're with the wrong person but Alex making everything Technicolor..wow. I've always fantasized about making a speech like Rosie's. Just laying it all out there, the truth for all to see. I'll have my chance, some day. :)

As much as I like your idealism, I suggest that speeches like this might not work out so well in reality. There have been two occasions when I (a straight man) have done a little speech expressing the depths of my feelings for another woman, and neither time did it go down very well. I don't really understand these things, but my best guess is that she felt intimidated by it and it made her uncomfortable.

By the way, I did not do these speeches as a best man at a wedding.

I can see why you liked this film. I hope that it has an equivalent happy ending, and that the two of you have a beautiful relationship together.

To answer your question, I probably was "friend-zoned". I'm not a particularly attractive man (either physically or in terms of "vibe"), so it's hard for me to avoid being "friend-zoned". Maybe I'll be like Rosie and one day open up to someone who actually likes me.

Thank you so much for the kind words!

Please don't put yourself down! Being friend-zoned sucks but it just means it's not the right person. When the right one comes along everything will just work out. Call me naïve but I sincerely believe this.

I am with you Moonlightbabe. I thought at one point the bride was going to get up and smack Rosie one around the head......

I liked the scene in the movie, but in real life, a wedding is supposed to be about the bride and the bridegroom -- not about the unrequited love of the person making the toast. The speech itself was ghastly.

Yeah, I cringed so hard during that scene. Lovely speech, lovely moment between two people in love...NOT right at somebody else's wedding with their friends and family present.

If I were a guest I would forever refer to it as 'the one where some sad chick declared love for the groom right in front of the bride'.

"What race are you? If you don't tell me I'll just...assume the worst."
